Actually, Malcolm has written 12 small booklets on Hawaiian values that are being compiled into one book next year. I suggest you wait until the new book is out.The booklets are $12 each! The book will cover ho'oponopono, hewa, ho'omana, kapu, ho'onohonoho, ola, welina, kaka'olelo, a'o and more.

Well said, Gloria. Your words remind me of a quote I read recently in a book by Malcolm Naea Chun, one of our most precious treasures, who has translated numerous books on Hawaiian traditions of medicine and healing. He wrote:

"Hawaiian values are not merely a set of discrete behaviors from which one selects. Nor can one learn behaviors that reflect these values by signing up for workshops. One could argue that such a perspective would lead to lists of traits or characteristics that are so global and universal that they are shared and experienced by all of humanity -- they are, after all, what makes us human. However, when they are practiced with an understanding and within the context of a native world view, demonstrating the interrelatedness and interdependencies of belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity, then it is Hawaiian.

"Kamakau saw what could happen when people no longer 'could distinguish good from evil' and seemed adrift from being pono. The restoration of pono -- the word for this is ho'oponopono -- must be linked to the traditions and history of Hawai'i. It is a process that has developed to become more than 'making things right.' Today, it includes to restore and heal or ho'ola, literally 'to give life,' by mending the broken relationships between members of family, community, and perhaps even a people. Deep and clear understanding, appreciation, and awareness of pono are a start to that restoration." Malcolm Naea Chun, "Pono the Way of Living," CRDG, University of Hawai'i, page 19-20

I would like to put out to those of us wishing to embark upon the journey of lomi or in the midst of it all.......Please honor the tradition and roots. If you don't know what that is, please ask the elders and find the source. This is "not" a modality we learn in a few hours or a couple of days.

This is a life path. It is more than technique and the blessings that will come will be a thousand fold.

I continue to study and learn, each and every day. Even when I facilitate a class, I am blessed to continually receive information and guidance, for I know not what will present it self in any day. I must remain open and ready to receive this information.

Every class/situation is different. Life is different, our healing is different.

I feel blessed that even after 10+ years of study, I will mentor under a hawaiian kumu very soon when I return home to hawaii this March.

So for those wanting to know the differences between lomi and anything else - the depth is beyond, the aumaka will show you the way when you are prepared and ready, the connection with all that is will widen and you will never have to ask what the difference is, because you will know it in your heart - for there are no words.

Our western mind wants everything in a few hours, SLOW DOWN, Pay Attention and allow the process to unfold. Honor and Respect the tradition. Continue to study. Continue to learn. Continue to heal and grow.

I had a dream many years ago while living on Kauai. The Goddess Pele came to me and even today, 9 years later I am still working on a painting she asked me to do.....each year she guides me and provides me with what I should paint. I want to finish it yes....but I cannot do it in my time. I must do it ....in time.

I feel very honored to be mentoring under Lomi Kumu Dane Silva this March 2010. He has also agreed to be apart of a training on Kauai For September 2010 for 2 full days. He will share his gifts, wisdom, ho'oponopono, hands on techniques etc. Much gratitude as the wise elders come forth!

Lomi Practitioners - did you know that in ancient times Lomilomi also utilized detoxification cleansing methods prior to the actual bodywork?

I am organizing a 5 day residential healing and detoxing training. Healers - heal theyself! The 5 days will provide you with a week of juicing and food remedies to cleanse your body, yoga daily to cleanse your mind and soul and more bodywork/lomi techniques for your body!

You must have attended a previous Lomi training to participate. This retreat is limited to only 6 people and planned for mid May 2010 , Ocean City, N J (Oceanfront). More details coming soon. Interested, let me know? Lodging, meals and training included. My nutritional caterer is working on details now.
