Hope you had a chance to check out Massage Magazine in March and read my interview with the hawaiian elders on Sacred Hawaiian Healing

Aloha Lomilomi group,

I invite you to take a look at my website www.lomilomi-massage.org.  I've added lots of new pages during the past year including a 9 page section on ho'oponopono and a list of books related to Hawaiian healing that have been useful to me.  I"d be honored to have you lomi folks visit my website!

For those of you who don't know me, I practice and teach Mana Lomi®, a clinically focused yet spiritually grounded lomilomi developed by Dr. Maka'ala Yates, DC and coming through the linieage of Aunty Margaret Machado from the Big Island.  Mana Lomi® can be identified by its deep yet gentle quality of touch, by the connection with bones we create and by its problem solving orientation.

I live in Seattle, WA and have a private practice here.  I teach Mana Lomi® continuing education classes in Washington and in New England.  (I grew up in New England - hence my connection to that part of the world.)

I have committed myself to the study and practice of Hawaiian healing arts since I graduated from Brian Utting School of Massage in in Seattle 1996.  I practiced a form of Temple Lomi for 7 years before I began to study with Maka'ala in 2003. At that timie because I found Mana Lomi® to be ever so much more effective at resolving and relieving problems, and therefore much more satisfying to do,  I made a full transition from Temple lomi to Mana Lomi®.  (I say this with all due respect to other Temple lomi practitioners, realizing that this is my own personal experience.)

I look forward to hearing back from some of  you in this discussion group.

Aloha me ka ha'aha'a,

Barbara Helynn Heard

Hawaiian Lomilomi Association annual conference was held Oct. 21-23 in beautiful Kona, at Keauhou, the site of two recently-restored heiau or temples. We heard from kahu Keala Ching about the mana of the place. Nerita Machado spoke on her mother's legacy in lomilomi. Uncle Kaipo Kaneakua presented on ho'oponopono, and Donald and Yvonne Kaiahua on herbal medicine. We had a festival the next day open to the public, where kumu Alva Andrews and his students gave lomilomi to one and all. Some of us took time to snorkel with the turtles next door. A beautiful, restorative weekend. We're planning for next year Oct. 13-15, 2011. Save the dates!

Aloha lomilomi enthusiasts,

I just launched a series of pages on my website reflecting on ho'oponopono, including some of my personal experiences.

Ho'oponopono is about being in right relationship with all people, places and things. It is about cutting the cords to experiences which limit or restrict healing and wellbeing. Ho'oponopono practices help me to be an open healing channel and are a critical part of my lomilomi training!

I invite you to visit: http://www.lomilomi-massage.org/hooponopono.html

Aloha,
Barbara Helynn Heard, Mana Lomi® instructor
