What state are you in, Melissa?
Aloha,
I've been teaching in WA for two plus years and in New England (MA,CT, NH and I'm adding ME this year) for one year. Here's where I advertise: I teach Mana Lomi - a clinically oriented style of lomilomi.
in all states: I send fliers to all the massage schools and I list my classes in the online AMTA continuing ed calendar - no charge for this. I haven't yet drawn any students from the AMTA calendar....
in Washington State: The CME is a hard copy listing sent monthly to about 40% of our 10,000 licenced massage therapists. I pay about $200 for a 1"x 8" ad. I advertise there 4-5 times per year and get a handful of students from those ads. I also list my classes in a new online CE calendar for WA state located at http://wa-massage-therapy.com/ce/. This resource feels promising to me. I don't advertise in the WA AMTA newsletter because they charge $300-$400 for a half page ad - above my budget.
In New England I advertise in the AMTA newsletters of the individual states, and had a handful of registrations from those sources last year. They charge $50-$150 for a half page ad. (they also sell quarter and full page ads and classified...)
I'm looking forward to hearing responses from others.
