I just read the article and think it is fantastic. I looked at what MIT has to offer in their open course ware, and can barely beleive it. Wish I would of heard of this sooner.
We do not use the internet for instruction, at least not yet, however we are looking into offering some ceu classes online.
As for the article, I can see where certain subjects could be taught online and I am glad they are trying to make education affordable. (Still paying students loans) Still, there are certain things that can never be taught online, massage being one of them. Nothing on video, or in text will ever replace a teacher's guiding hands and constant monitoring of the student's progress. The video or text cannot tell the student ..for example....that they are not properly positioned at the table or chair. It is the same way I feel about homestudy or internet ceu courses. While the student can learn the academics of a certain subject, nothing can replace being in a classroom with an instructor who can provide them with actual "hands on" experience.
