massage and bodywork professionals
a community of practitioners
I have just completed my third year of employment for a major health system. I have been a Massage therapist for about 30 years (living proof it can actually be a long career). I work with hospice patients and the past 3 years have been the most facinating of my massage career. I am the on;ly therapist serving a 30 mile radius; hospitals, private homes and extended care fascilities. Though I feel I am paid well, there is no comraderery, no like minded colleagiues to bounce a thought off on.The nurses are great and supprtive to the extent they have time to be. But they are very busy with their own responsibilities. We have 1 other adjunct therapy, music therapy. our commonality is that we sort of feel like the step children of the department. I have tried to push for another MT to no avail. I am frustrated. I have many client/patient referred to me by the nurses; so many that I only see the majority of them about 1 x a month. I'm going to take the webinar by Ben Benjamin/ Tracy walton in a couple of weeks on Hospital based MT. I would love to hear from any hospice MTs and any Hospital based MTs. It seems there are many out there, somewhere, but I have had quite a challenge connecting. Also I do have experience , please let me know if I may be of help to you.
