I'm glad to hear that Jim is OK. I think Cheryl is pretty busy working and teaching. She teaches a lot of continuing ed classes all over the state.

As far as the AT goes, I've hiked, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Some of Virginia, New York, New Jersey, some of Pennsylvania and climbed Katahdin in Maine. It's an ongoing thing, I hiked Shenandoah National park a month ago. Gorgeous place! Where do you hike?Locally,I love Harriman Park in NY. My son is really into rock climbing! Where do you climb?

Barbara,

Jim did have a triple bypass. By all accounts, he's doing well. I think he's back at work this week. I don't know Cheryl Chapman, but I'm surprised that ITM hasn't reached out to her to teach - Jim is spread pretty thin!

I'd love to hike the AT! What sections have you done?

Hi Diane, Welcome!
Working on seniors is also great and easy on the hands. I have a few senior clients and they are the nicest people. It's great if you can get into an affluent area or connect with a pricey assisted living facility. You might find clients more able to afford massage.

Hey Mara,

I just checked out your site-nice job. Interesting to find out you are an avid hiker! I love to hike and have been section hiking the AT for a few years now. Have about 700 miles completed. I end up working on a lot of knees and IT Bands on the trail!

Hi Mara,
Nice to meet you! Welcome to the NJ site-thanks to Michael.
I just heard that Jim Zazinski recently had heart surgery. I think a triple bypass. I hope he's OK. We had a lot of fun with him.

Do you know Cheryl Chapman? I was wondering if she taught any of the classes to you at ITM. She's one of New Jersey's leading Oncology Massage Therapists. A really nice woman to know. I took her pre natal certification class and it was very thorough.

I, too, take any client who comes to me, but am attempting to market my practice specifically to seniors. I love working with the elderly, and there are many 55+ and assisted living communities nearby. The economy has hurt this market, though. Many have lost a lot of their retirement savings and consider massage too much of a "luxury". I do offer a senior discount, but there's still a lot of resistance to spend the money.

Hi everyone! I'm also a graduate of ITM - from the new Oncology program. Jim Z was our main instructor - what a wonderful man! I currently volunteer in the Palliative Care Dept. at University Hospital in Newark, and I am in the process of launching my own pracitice, Touching Lives Massage (www.touchinglivesonline.com).

I currently have a private office in Clinton NJ. (www.BarbWeinstock.MassageTherapy.com)
I just recently opened the office and business is starting to pick up.

I also work out of my home and spent a few months working for a local spa. The spa did not have enough clients to warrant me being on call 4 days a week. It was really cramping my schedule. I make more money right now with less clients because they did not pay very well either.

I love working for myself. It's the way to go! My specialty is pre-natal massage although I take any client that comes to me. I chose pre natal because it's more gentle work, easier on the hands and I think because of that, it will be more sustainable over a longer period of time. It's really sweet work too!

Do you have a specialty?

I have a private practice and I work for a resort as well. I'm not familiar with Steve and Jim Z (I don't think). Where are you practicing and how are things in NJ for therapists?

Hi Michael, Just checked out the NJ site and I see you studied at ITM in Pompton Lakes! I graduated from the same school in Jan 06. I loved the school and really got a greatest education. My teachers were Steve and Jim Z. I take continuing Ed classes at New Jersey Massage in Parsippany and love Larry's Ultimate Series. It's really improved my practice. Where do you currently work?
