No Shows
So I had my first no show today. Not a cancelation... a now show. My first day at clinic. The guy called me, books at 6pm, then doesn't show up. I did everything right. Got there early, set up my room, made his folder and waited, waited, and waited. Then, yes I called. He said he was on his way. I aked, did you need more directions? He said no I got it. I waited untill 7pm and called again. He didn't answer and called me back, then hung up when I said hello. Go figure!
My husband didn't make it no better. He was concerned that it was an evening appoinment with the opposite sex. Now he is like....ummm I don't know about this.
Anyone else have any no show stories? Or any heads up!

I'm sorry that happened to you. Are you still in school? That happened quite a bit when I was in school. It's like they have a lower level of respect for students. It does happen at times. I haven't had it happen at the spa but it is common knowledge at my spa that I require 24 hour notice. Will it still happen? Of course, but hopefully not as much!

Where I work an appointment booked is secured with a credit card. The reason, because in the event of a no show, the card is charged for the therapist's time.

Thanks Misty. I assumed this wasn't going to be my last. Yes I'm still in school. Hoping to get done with clinic by the end of the month. You know that sounds about right, the low level of respect statement. My fellow student had her first appointment 30mins late, asked only for 30mins, not an hour, and took off without paying. But that was the front desk's fault.

That makes alot of sense with it being an establishment and all. I don't no why they don't do that at the school. I will have to ask, when I go back tomorrow.

In Florida it is against the law for students to charge for massage or receive tips. We cannot charge or recieve tips until we were licensed. All monies collected during clinics went to the school.

Yes it is the same way in Texas. What I was saying is, when the client came in to receive his massage he asked the front desk at the school if he can pay later. He didn't. Also when my client didn't show, the massage could of been charged to a credit card he prebooked with. I'm not sure if the school I attend opts out of this because they are a school and not a business establishment???

Don't worry - you didn't do anything wrong. It can feel awful like you did something wrong but it isn't about you. It's hard to remember that sometimes but just try to learn especially because this is still the school clinic - from what I can surmise. Do you have a clinic supervisor that you can talk this over with?
One thing also if the clinic doesn't charge much people don't respect their time there as much usually.
I have tons of no show stories over 22 years. In the beginning I wouldn't charge anything and now I charge the full fee. I even had one person get so mad at me for charging the fee that they slammed me all over on citysearch.com where you can review people. Luckily I saw it and got it removed. I think that having so many different massage therapists all with different policies also makes it difficult sometimes for people if some don't charge they expect no one else will too.
It will get better!

Hello everyone. I am grateful at times that my school did not charge for our clinical. I hear from other therapist who schools did charge, and at time how hard it was to get clients in when they had to produce them on their own. Yet, even when massages were given away for free, clients still came up as "no shows". It's an unpredictable fact that no appointment is guaranteed until the client is on the table. LOL!

I had a much better day today. Out of the five booked four showed up! Two days down and several more to go! -

Interseting! Wow. Thats a good point, it is different all across the board. I think I have a strong back bone now. I'm interested in seeing what else is in store.

I have been doing Clinics at school since March..I have had 2 no shows...the thing I really don't like is waiting around when I could have gone home. Have to say though we had some pretty bad weather that day so maybe that was the reason...still they have a phone I am sure.
