massage and bodywork professionals

a community of practitioners

I will be writing and giving an oral report on a massage related topic for my massage therapy class this summer. We can use the choices the instructor gave us or something else as long as we get his approval on the topic first. I think I want to come up with my own topic. There are so many things to write about that I am having trouble picking something. I love to get up in front of people and speak about subjects I am passionate about-this doesn't phase me at all. I want whatever I talk about to be useful information for my classmates and I don't want to bore them either. :)

Does anyone have any ideas? Let's brainstorm...

Thanks,

Lara

The Topic here that has generated the most discussion is Massage and Energy work. You can go check the forums to find it. There are several with hundreds of posts to help your research. It all has been interesting and controversial.
Thanks Darcy, I was thinking of perhaps something along that line. I am a Reiki practitioner.

Hi Lara - one of the topics of greatest importance in massage school is self-care and injury prevention. It is definitely possible to avoid the injuries that are so common among massage therapists (even in school), but you need to take a holistic, multifaceted approach, and you need to start from Day One so working safely becomes the only way you know how to work. Raising awareness of injury risk and the many strategies needed to combat it (WAY beyond just good body mechanics) would be a great topic to discuss in your oral report - it would be a real service to your fellow students. If you need more information, I'm happy to supply it.

Thanks Lauriann. I do think this would be a very beneficial topic for my fellow massage students and one I am passionate about as well...I hear students already complaining about their thumbs, and it saddens me because they haven't even started their careers yet.
