Lots of Questions

I am getting a lot of questions from therapists just starting out and thought maybe a discussion group could serve as a reference point for them.
This time of transition is a delicate time. So many therapists lose confidence. Do not let this be you. This group is here to help you make it. You ARE one of us!

There is now an alliance forming for therapists and students at the Massage Therapy Alliance of America. Click on this link for details http://www.mtaamassage.org

Hi Darcy,

It's very important to me to talk to other massage therapists and to teach the work that I do. I'm currently creating a certification course in Julstro Muscular Therapy because I work with people all over the world through the forum on my website (http://www.julstro.com) and they are constantly asking me for certified local massage therapists who can do my techniques.

Congratulations on your decision to join our healing profession. As a new massage therapist I believe you'll learn a lot by just going to the forum and reading some of the threads. Start at the beginning of the thread and read the back and forth discussions. As you read their initial question, think about which muscles could be causing their problem, and then read my response to see if you came to the same conclusion.

My time is extremely limited right now because I'm in the middle of writing 27 short books with titles such as "Stop Shoulder Pain FAST!" and "Stop Hip Pain FAST!" etc., and I'm also co-authoring four books titled "The Pain Free Cyclist," "The Pain Free Race-Walker," "The Pain Free Musician," and "Pain Free Horsemanship." I have already written seven books, one that would help you help yourself and your clients is "Treat Yourself to Pain Free Living," where I demonstrate how to self-treat muscles so you can stop pain quickly, especially in the middle of a race or when a person is unable to get to a massage therapist. It is also used as information a massage therapist can give to their clients so the person will be able to continue their therapy at home.

When I add in the four forums that I moderate on the internet, and other business commitments, I'm not sure how frequently I can come to this website, but I will do my best. I'm determined to share my information with other massage therapists.

Wishing you well,
Julie Donnelly

We need your experience strength and hope on helping out the almost and newly licensed therapists who have many questions and do not know where to begin.

I was fortunate to have Mike Hinkle as my massage therapist and mentor. He encouraged me to go to massage school. Once in and through Swedish, he allowed me to do free massages at Pensacola Massage Center to gain experience. Once licensed and made my first dollar on Valentine's Day 2008, I had a job at the center. I am still very young in this profession and want to hear of your experience, and there are many others out there just like me.

Thank you for the invite, I would love to help in any way I can. Staying connceted w/like minded people helps in building knowledge, techniques and experience. I am still seeking to learn more than what I know, I like talking w/people who enjoy learing about healing the body and myofascia release. I look forward talking w/you all. Peaceful thoughts,

At this point in time, I don't have a book to add. Nothing off the top of my head, anyhow. However, I've been doing massage professionaly for 7 years. That is still considered a "rookie" by some in this industry and ancient by the ones just starting. The point is this... none of us will ever know everything there is to know. Try not to become a weekend seminar specialist. It may be years of implementing what you have learned with weekend CE courses before you actually know what you are talking about. I am ready and willing to answer any questions that may be directed to me, at me, or maybe not even me if I think I can help. At the heart of it, that's what we are. Helpers, not healers. Now that last remark may be disputed, but that's what makes the world go 'round!
