How Is Shiatsu Therapy Viewed Where You Practice?

I live in Vancouver, Canada and still find that many don't know what Shiatsu therapy is. I was wondering how it is in other parts of the country and the USA.

But, Shiatsu and Ammo also Chiropratic there are part of Tuina so you'd better to study all about Tuina in China.

Shiatsu is very well known in Los Angeles. However with the predominance of Chinese and Koreans in the local business the term Acupressure is much more widely advertised. They have common origin in Amma but developed differently. Both are widely practiced in Los Angeles. The registered form Ashiatsu, which takes the Korean foot work of Acupressure, is becoming known in the area. For overall effect I prefer the Chinese Acupressure when performed by someone who passed the three year schooling. Shiatsu is also a three year course in Japan but concentrates on using thumbs more and includes chiropractic application with acupoint work. This was actually done so Shiatsu could be approved after WWII by the occupation forces because teaching or performing Japanese arts were banned.

I couldn't open the link for the Japanese shiatsu clinic for some reason. Are you a Shiatsu therapist?

Hi Daniel

Shiatsu has a few different styles, Zen Shiatsu is the style that I learned and we use not only thumbs, but elbows, knees, forearms and whatever we can. We also incoporate stretches and Sotai, energy work and some gentle manipulations when needed. Namikoshi is popular in Japan but in the rest of the world the Masunaga style has flourished and practiced.
