Hi there, I am a LMT up in Anchorage Alaska. I was talking to a pt who used to be a massage therapist many moons ago. She passed along the book "A Manual of Reflexive Therapy of the Connective Tissue" which I am presently reading. I notice there are a one or two schools that are offering instruction in the US. Are there resources that the curious can investigate to further their understanding of the technique?

Myofascial Release and Rolfing are also connective tissue massage, but their approach is more manual, in terms of working with the fascia. With Bindegewebsmassage, you let the body do the work by activating the reflexes. As we move into work further from the spine, the reflexive response lessons. One reason to always do the full basic before moving into arms or legs.

 

Someone told me that Ida Rolf went to Germany and received a series of Binde before she developed Rolfing. Anyone know if that is true?

Hi Andrea,

It is different in technique but they both have an effect of the collegeen fibers of the body. Bindegewebsmassage or connective tissue massage (CTM) employs the reflexes of the nerves....on a sympatheic and para sympathic level, warming the core of the body along with detoxification and tremendous release of anti-histomines.

Hi I am a relatively new therapist and am curious. Is myofascial release the same as Bindegewebsmassage? If not what are the main differences?

Thanks Pat for the invite. I know a bit of CTM from what we learned in school. We spent many weeks learning this modality. I know there is much more to learn though.
