What is Core Alignment Technique (CAT)?
This technique is base on a mixture of a specific Feldenkrize exercise- a body awareness technique, Shiatsu stretches and Energy Work. This technique uses slow, repetitive, range-of-motion type movement. The emphasis is on releasing blockages in the pelvis or shoulders, and aligning the spine. It will improve movement restriction, increase flexibility and enable clients to re-program old habits and patterns.

This work will takes your bodywork one step further, beyond the traditional prone/supine. Most of the work is done in side position and includes off the table neck techniques.

This work is especially beneficial for clients with chronic back, shoulder and neck pain and stiffness, frozen shoulder, spinal stenosis, and for clients who do not see significant results from regular massage.
Please be aware that this techinque is NOT Feldenkrais.

I would love to answer any questions. I will be teaching this class in 2010, so stay tuned for dates.

There ya go!
Sound right up my alley. I'll be looking forward to when you post the training dates!!!
Eeris, ,I am hoping to catch a 2010 class, perhaps at the festival. Well see, there is just soo much to choose from.. Can't wait to meet you... Find the work easy on your body???
Shawn, I would say that for the most part it is easier on the body- there is no deep pressure to apply, it is slow and meditative. But with all bodywork there is a strong emphasis on correct body mechanics and table height especially when there is limb lifting and moving, so the therapist is comfortable and not hurting her/himself. Looing forward to meeting you too! Thanks for your interest!

A quick couple of questions, I noticed that in the second picture you have your patients neck in a fairly advanced state of extension. What steps to you take when clearing for injury? (query Vertibral Artery impingment) Are you using ocilations while in the extended neck position? Have you had any negative reactions to such a position?

Hi Don- Thanks for your question and sorry it took me so long to answer- I was out of town and did not visit this site for a while.
This neck maneuver is actually a very gentle smooth continuous movement, but obviously it's not for everyone, there are contraindications and should be modified or avoided in case of pain and injury. Its important to review the health history and when in doubt there are some tests maneuvers that can be done.
The results are from this technique are very positive. Every now and then people report some discomfort because their body is changing and it takes a while to acclimate to the new relaxed pattern, but mostly from the pelvic/shoulder work rather than the neck work.
I hope that answers your question.

You asked about literature but this is a technique I put together based on a particular Feldenkrais exercise Shiatsu stretches and movements and energy work, so there is not literature about CAT, but there is a lot of literature about the Feldenkrais method, just google Moshe Feldenkrais .

PS I want to be clear that CAT is not Feldenkrais and I am not a Feldenkrais practitioner.

Hello,

I was wondering if the technique you have created has any comparison to either the "Core Movement Integration by Josef Dellagrotte" or the "CORE Myofascial therapy" (which seems to come out of Florida)?

Could you also let me know how you came to choose the name "Core Alignment" and what kind of "Energy Work" you are using in your technique?

And, I know these are a lot of questions, but regarding the Feldenkrais work:  May I ask what type of Feldenkrais work are you using with your technique and how you decided to integrate it (are you integrating the basic concept, specific exercises, a sequence of excercises, general FI type work or ATM suggestions)?

I used to work with a therapist who was proficient with Dubbing, and she used some Feldenkrais work in her sessions, but more as ATM suggestions, post session.

I am interested to learn more and have also sent you an e-mail.  I look forward to your response.  :)

Hello

I am not familiar with the two techniques you have mentioned.

I chose the name because it is about moving the body in a way that helps release tension in the spine (the core) and helps release holding patterns in shoulder and the hip areas, therefore helps with alingning the body from the core.

This movement based work is very subtle and allows for energetic release as I move the body. The energy work happens on its own.

the work is inspired by one particular Feldenkraise exercise. It provided the core of the movement.the rutine includes some Shiatsu stretches and meridian/energy work.

I recently created an instructional video if you are interested. its mostly to support students who took my classes, but it is available for others as well.

let me know if you have any more questions

Eeris
