Hi Marissa,
that depends on what you are seeking to get out of it. Yes to me it was worth it. Contracts used to be for six months. I do not know if that has changed. You will be employed by the ship's spa concessionary not by the cruise line, unless their spa operations are run in-house. The only one I know of that had this set-up were Mediterranean Shipping Cruises. The stories are true but how much damage you do to your body is entirely dependent on how ergonomically functional your therapeutic skills are. That said, I know of no better way to fine-tune your skill set than by working in an environment that requires you to be attentive to every move, every session. If you are a new therapist you tend to work a 'routine' and that can be disastrous to your body because once you are tired, you begin to slacken attention to your body mechanics. But you do learn fastest and best on the job. If I had to do it all over again now, I would train in taijiquan, Yoga, or Trager for at least a year before taking on a similar workload :)
Best regards and please post an update on here if you do decide to take up the ship life.

Hi Mike, Thank you for joining the group and for spreading the word. Although it is definitely not for everyone, the subject makes for great armchair travel as well. That's how I 'cruise' lately too. Warmest regards, Alex

Hi Alex,

This is kinda funny. I do appreciate the invite. I can not do water. I would like to keep up on this aspect of the industry. I will add as I can. I know a lot of new therapists fantasize about doing this, so I will stay informed for them. Thanks for adding this group! It would be great if you started a discussion about what additionally a student needs to do to do this. Do they have to go to specific schools? What requirements are needed?
