While taking a private yoga session, the instructor mentioned to me that I kept my shoulders up around my ears and how much strain that was putting on my neck.  I soon became aware I was doing the same thing during my massage sessions.  I now am aware and make a conscience effort to  keep them where they belong.  Also, I try to moved my body with fluidity.  I read an article on using Ti Chi moments while performing massage.  "Dancing with the strokes."  I found this to be a wonderful method that not only felt natural, but allowed me to keep my back limber, etc.

Jenna & Julia while it is important to become conscious of  poor body mechanics, it is more important to develop acceptable body mechanics on a subconscious level. This is the goal of your training whether you use dance or Taiji as the conditioning tool. I am very thankful that I learned a massage form from martial arts. This builds an approach and conditioning of movement that will help you have a long and relatively ;-) pain free career in massage.
