Anyone in the Chicagoland area that is interested in becoming a Labor Doula and/or Childbirth Educator, there will be a training taking place Oct. 1-3rd in Winfield, IL at Central Dupage Hospital. The course will be done through CAPPA. Great addition to your massage practice! Message me if interested.

I have not been able to find a way without working with a chiro or MD. I have to run to a client but feel free to call me this week and I can explain my efforts further and what we do as a work around - 773-699-6686.

Yes Tom Y employees must recertify each year that they are employed with the Y. It does not apply to massage therapists, however I like to recertify every two years just to keep my skills up to speed in case I ever need to use CPR. Hopefully I won't but you never know.

I see. I guess I was confusing the fact that certain employers require it to be renewed on a yearly/biyearly basis. The YMCA, where I work, and who provides the classes, is one of them. Sorry for adding confusion to the discussion.

CPR/First Aid was required when I first applied for my license back in 2004. I remember taking it in massage school, we needed to be certified in order to graduate and if we did not graduate we could not apply for our license. So the state does not require it but it was required in order to get through massage school. This may have changed since then, I don't know.

Upcoming class in Nashville, TN - Friday-Monday, September 17-20, 2010 for 24CEs.

Teaching Skills for the Workshop Leader

Please join me for this 4-day hands-on course, in which those who aspire to teach at the professional continuing education level will prepare for the application process and delve into the principles of adult learning. This is a true workshop. Yes, you will get lots of information. But you will also put what you learn to use right in this workshop. Come prepared to write syllabi, learning objectives and lesson plans for your class, actually try out part of your presentation with your classmates, prepare a written plan for implementation of your marketing strategy, decide what level of certification is right for you, and if it is National Certification, actually begin to fill out the NCBTMB application in class.

Times: 9:30AM to 5:00PM on Friday, 9:30AM to 6:00PM on Saturday & Sunday. 9:30AM to 1:30PM on Monday. Additional optional non-credit hours on Monday 2:30PM-4:30PM for completing the NCBTMB application for no charge.

CPR/First Aid certification is not required at all, actually. Unless they changed it since I got my license in '08.

Tom,

The only classes that can be used for CEUs are ones whose instructors have applied for and received a provider number from the National Certification Board. They need to give you a certificate with this provider number on it for it to count. CPR/First Aid certification is not required for license renewal, only for the initial application for licnesure. You are on your own to renew that certification and I just did at my local Y. No CEUs were given.

Tom - No, I do not think they apply toward CEs.
