I'm an Illinois massage therapist. Does anyone know if the classes we take to renew our CPR/First Aid certification counts towards CE time? Thought I heard somewhere that it does. I've written to Springfield to find out but so far haven't heard back from them.

Upcoming class in Raleigh, North Carolina - Thursday-Sunday, July 22-25, 2010 for 24CEs.

Teaching Skills for the Workshop Leader

Please join me for this 4-day hands-on course, in which those who aspire to teach at the professional continuing education level will prepare for the application process and delve into the principles of adult learning. This is a true workshop. Yes, you will get lots of information. But you will also put what you learn to use right in this workshop. Come prepared to write syllabi, learning objectives and lesson plans for your class, actually try out part of your presentation with your classmates, prepare a written plan for implementation of your marketing strategy, decide what level of certification is right for you, and if it is National Certification, actually begin to fill out the NCBTMB application in class.

Times: 9:30AM to 6:00PM on Thursday -Saturday. 9:30AM to 12:30PM on Sunday. Additional optional non-credit hours on Sunday 1:30PM-3:30PM

Pat and Emmanuel thank-you so much for your input. I had tried reaching the Wis. licensing board and got stuck listening to a recorded message so when you gave me the link for the application it was great! I still think that I need to contact someone that is actually licensed in Wis. though, because parts of it seem to be confusing. Thanks again for all your help!

Pam, as I was typing my last note, I guess the state of Wisconsin was replacing the existing certification law with a licensing law. I can't find any specifics on this yet, you will find the announcement here:

Pam, the link to the Wisconsin application is http://drl.wi.gov/docview.asp?docid=513&locid=0

As you can see on the application, there are a couple different ways to approach this, including a waiver of education option where if you are current nationally certified you can substitute that for the education minimum. There is also a reciprocity option as well.

Pam, I think your best bet is to talk to someone who is licensed in Wisconsin or call their licensing bureau to get the facts. There is a lot of misinformation out there about licensing laws as every state is different. Best to go right to the source. Good luck!

Hi everybody, as a fairly new massage therapist I usually spend my time reading what other people have written but this time I need your advice. I live 6 miles from the Wisconsin border and recently had a conversation with a personal trainer whose business is in Wis. She made it be known that she's interested in my working with her. The problem is that I don't know what to do about getting a Wis. license. Does anyone have any ideas? I need to talk to her soon but would like to have some info first. I do know that they require 600 hrs. My program was 560hrs and I have recently become a registered practitioner in Jin Shin Do, which is almost a 400hr program. Will that count? Thanks for any help that you can give me!

Hi Pat, looking forward to learning and sharing with other Illinois LMTs. Also, I am very interesting in legislation that effects our profession locally and nationwide.

Delete Comment Hello Illinois therapists. Next Wednesday, May 12, the Chicago Board of Alderman will vote on a zoning ordinance that, if passed, will restrict where legitimate massage therapists can practice. If you are in or near Chicago, or you know anyone who is, this vote affects *you.* Please take minute to contact your Chicago Alderman. Find more information, including talking points and Alderman contact info at: www.amta-il.org.

P.S. If you're nowhere near Chicago, don't think this doesn't affect you. Governments look at precedents when setting rules. Don't let this become a precedent.
