Thanks for taking the time to come in here and educate Angie and Tracie. You are both so dedicated to helping move our practice forward.

Thank you Angela for the clarification. I do think all the laws are confusing to the average person. While I would love to be more involved in the process. I am trying to make ends meet and earn a living and it is hard to find the time to devote to that process. I will try and be more informed in the future. Thanks again for the info!

Thanks Angela,
As I live across the river from IL, I am interested in what happens there.

Dear Angela: Thx for inviting me to join the 'Illinois Therapists' group. Been interested in how the State's CE laws will develop. Lot of excellent therapists and fine educators in the area. Good luck with the legislation. ~ ERIK

Hi there,
Just noticed a comment from Pat Ward a few posts ago stating "I think so until the licensing law is repealed in 2012..." Just want to ensure that you all understand that ALL licensing laws have a sunset date---In fact, the Medical Practice Act which licenses MDs, DOs and Chiropractors is set to sunset December 31, 2010. The laws sunset (very generic explanation here) so that if any changes, etc., need to be made, there is a timeline in place which allows that to happen. Another thing to keep in mind is that opening a licensing act, introducing legislation affecting a licensed profession, etc., if a fairly difficult and tedious process, so when a licensing act is opened during a sunset period, that is when the sharks start circling! Also, a representative has already put forth a bill to extend the Medical Practice Act in 2009. Don't interpret that because a "sunset" or "repeal" date is pending that the licensure law will change, cease, etc. Rest assured there will be attempts to change---some good, some not so good----but I wouldn't worry that the massage therapy licensure/practice act is going away. The fact that you are aware is important. A very, very wise GR person once told me---getting licensure for your profession is actually the easy part. The real work begins once you have it. Please stay informed and engaged with the associations---particularly the AMTA-IL Chapter as they will post alerts on website, inform you of updates, etc., regardless of your membership. The chapter has a lobbyist working in Springfield each day, as well as a great GR Chair and Board Member Tracy Smodilla. When they put out a call to action---or even before, check in and see what you need to know, and what you can do to help yourself, the chapter, and the profession as a whole

Hi there Illinois!
How do you like the first edition of the Illinois PERG (Professional Education & Resource Guide)? I am the publisher, and so far I've received some calls and e-mails from therapists who like it a lot. And calls from more Continuing Education Providers who plan to advertise in the Fall Edition, which comes out in July. You should all have received the booklet in the mail by now. Let me know what you think! You can also download a copy at http://www.proedresourceguide.com.

Thanks, Celia. I just tried the link myself and it wouldn't work. Its spelled right, but there are some sort of %% marks in there (scratch head). Here it is again:
http://www.proedresourceguide.com/ If the link doesn't work, you can cut and paste it into your browser url bar. If you didn't get your PERG in the mail and you live in Illinois, email me your address and I'll mail you one first class- weinberger@mindspring.com.
