Been having a discussion about joint movement and this issue keeps coming up:  eversion/inversion of the ankle, or of the foot?  Is one more accepted than the other?  Why?

If by ankle you mean the talocrural joint, the motions allowed are plantarflexion and dorsiflexion in the sagittal plane.

If you want to talk about the allowed motions of eversion/inversion, you are talking about the talocalcaneal (or subtalar) joint.

Does that help you?
Calcaneal eversion goes together with the talus going down and in. This allows the tibia to internally rotate.
I would call it the foot. I would also say it was the calcaneus and heel bone of the foot. LMTs can mobilize the subtalar joint, the midtarsal joint and 1st MTP joint of the foot.
Even in a basic program, I think you have to draw clear distinctions in joint motions. I would definitely advise separating the motions that occur at the ankle and those that occur distally.
