Going back to Karen's statement about having a mentor. I strongly agree. I was thrown in the classroom as an instructor. I had no clue as to what I was teaching until the day I walked in the door. so you know I was just as clueless as the students. I am sure I am not the only one who that has happened to

CE classes for La. Massage Therapists, approved provider. Energetic Trauma Release Workshop, 6 hours

This class is designed to increase your knowledge regarding working compassionately and effectively with the effects of trauma/chronic stress in your practice. Learn how secondary trauma affects those dealing with trauma and abuse with others.

Learn about “triggers” that affect a person after the event or trauma is over and how to release them, replacing fear motivated behavior with a sense of calm.

When someone experiences emotional or physical trauma, illness, chronic stress, surgery, suppressed or negative feelings, this causes “energy blocks” in the body, affecting our health and well being.

Oct.9, Nov.6, Dec.11, Jan.22., Lafayette, La. contact Sue @ 337 232-4799 for more information or email energyworker2003@yahoo.com; $125 investment or $195 with Mind, Body Self Care Strategies. 6 hours

Mind, body self care strategies: 6 hours, Oct.16, Nov.7, Dec.12, Jan. 23-$125 investment or $195 if taken with Energetic Trauma Release, Lafayette, La.
As caregivers we tend to take care of others, but it's important that we learn how to relax, what our stressors are and take care of ourself. In this class, we will learn relaxation techniques, mind, body spirit assessment, meditation, and many more ways to avoid burnout.

I just called NCBTMB and they said you do not have to have national certification to be an approved provider. I thought you did but I guess not. But, you have to have all the paperwork and correct requirements when filling out the approved provider forms.
As far as I am aware, MBLEX is a test for certain states and does not have requirements for continuing education yet.
Now, I am speaking about continuing education here so teaching in a massage school is different and can differ in each state.
Anyone feel free to comment here but this is what I understand.
Have a great day!

Thanks for the info. although I live in MI, and most of the info. was for Texas. Do you have to be nationally certified to teach, and does it matter if it's NCTMB or MBLEX?

In reference to Heidi's question about becoming a massage therapy instructor... One important option often overlooked is working with a mentor who has experience teaching as well as knowledge of your chosen modality. Be sure there are good vibes between you, space for allowing and accepting honesty and constructive input. Having an appropriate mentor enhances and advances your teaching skills and ultimately provides a a more dynamic approaches to benefit the students.

I taught various massage courses for three years, and I have to say the lack of responsibility in many people, surprised me! I heard the same excuses and lame BS that I'm sure junior high and high school teachers hear from students haha. Of course many people were still very commited and motivated, and teaching was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I'll very likely be teaching again, soon, so I'm looking forward to it.
