I am currently considering going to massage therapy school. I am from Mooresville but currently live in Durham. My background is a little offbeat...
I worked as a pharmaceutical chemist for 15 years before being laid off back in 2008. I am also trained in mixology (bartending).

I have a question to all the professionals already in the field... basically... "how's business?" In other words, is the field already saturated? (If you guys aren't able to drum up enough business, then maybe I should look into another field). However if there's a shortage of massage therapists, then maybe this is the path I should follow.

I've had lots of unnofficial training from my days attending East Carolina University in the 80s/90s due to my close association to Sports med students, OT and PT students. Some taught me basics, others simply gave me massages.

During my time as a chemist, I also attended several Massage therapy workshops. I've given a few massages to friends (have received no complaints, only compliments). And some folks claim I have the best hands when it comes to scalp massages.

In addition, on my own, I've studied aromatherapy, reflexology, and herbal therapies (even though I worked in pharmaceutics). I joke that i have this secret wish to become an apothecary. :) It is almost not a joke. I am into holistic healthcare, in general.

I also have more than 10 years experience in t'ai chi, so I am familiar with the concept of energy channels.

And now that I have been laid off for more than 2 years, I am considering a career change (or at least, addition) and that's why II am researching massage therapy schools. Feel free to recommend your favorite school(s)! All input is welcome!

Thank you!

Hi Jacqueline. I am contributing a Festival registration for a door prize and buying raffle tickets. I am swamped trying to get everything ready for Festival!
