Spa Work: The Good, The Bad, The Beautiful

Generalities:

a) For your personal growth, spa work is as good as any other process. The experience you gain depends entirely on how you approach the big picture.

b) For your skill development, it is every machine in the gym plus nature hikes too. Spa work is definitely worth a stint, especially if you are just starting out.

c) For business development, it can be a treadmill, unless you have ownership. As an employee it can be a comfortable ride given the right remuneration and benefits package. As an IC it can be a great part-time job to help you pay the bills.

Features:
It can endure steadily over time, there is lots of variety in the food for thought menu, you get to stay as long as you're satisfied, tow the company line, or until your employers decide to let you go.

Assets:
A paycheck with your name on it, possibly health insurance, sometimes 401k, vision, dental. Often good tips and steady clients, sometimes no laundry, no calls, no emails, no marketing, no promoting, no overheads. And love it or leave it convenience.

Liabilities:
Anonymity, you help establish the brand identity of a third-party. Sometimes low pay and/or expensive buy-in to benefits. Sometimes narrow job description parameters and occasional twangs of replaceability syndrome.

Aloha Fellow Therapist,

I'm joining the group.

I've worked at The Spa Kea Lani for over ten years. Some of the things I love about working at our spa: divesity of the treatments, the surroundings, helping people on their healing journey, and The Spa Kea Lani Ohana .
I tell people all the time "When you love what you do, and can make a living doing it, you are Blessed, and I am Blessed", and I get to live on Maui<3

On April 24, I will be with Massage Evny 1 year. I love it here in Pensacola, FL We have great Owners and work in a State of the Art Clinic with all Electric Tables, a computerized booking system so there is no greed, a complete linen service provided so no laundry is done in the facily, all supplies provided. So far in the last year Massage Envy has given me 56 CE hours for free, 16 hours of Hot Stone Certification, plus 40 hours of World Massage Conference which Massage Envy is a Global Sponsor and Massage Envy Employees receive FREE Registration. So take advantage of those free CE's. I work 19 hours a week. 5 hours shifts and do any where from 2-4 massages in those shifts. I am bringing home $1000 a month. To me that is good money. Yes, I could work more. I do not want to as I also have my own private business. I live 11 miles from the Massage Envy I work for and am outside of the range for the compete millege. Just so you all know too, A compete contract is nul and void in a court of law so don't fret over it. Clients have the freedom to choose who massages them as long as you do not approach the client. The Client approaches you the therapist. World Massage Conference also in June and also November. FREE registration. It is held on line. All classes are 1 hour and you can do as little or how many you choose. They are great classes. A great variety to choose from. Also Massage Envy is a sponsor of the World Massage Festival, www.worldmassagefestival.com to be held in Berea, KY June 17-21, 2010, at Berea College. This is the best Massage Event in the world and it the place to be. They beat AMTA and FSMTA hands over. Price is much less as well so check them out. I did receive a raise on my base pay after 6 months and I am hoping for another raise at my 1 year anniversary. 6 month raise on the base pay was $1.00 per massage. So I hope this helps. I do know that all Massage Envy Clinics are not the same. I hope you all work in great ones like I do. Let me know if I can answer any questions or send you in any new directions for CE's within your clinics. Do the Hot Stones as Pay was doubled for me during those sessions once I became Certified and Massage Envy will pay for the course. You have nothing to loose. Much to gain.

Hi! Alex, I don't work at a spa. I work at a day program for clients living with Alzheimer's Disease and I have private clients. I have thought about working for a spa...Trager level 1 with Deane...That was about 8 years ago and I can still vividly recall the total ease and flow with which he connected with the person on the table.
