no it is not contraindicated,... however many factors will determine specific treatment protocol...surgery with metal implants (wires, rods etc) will be contraindicated for both hot (110-120 F) and cold (32-60 F) applications directly over the implants. Specific pressure and velocity are necessary when using temperatures on the extremes of our safe range. Using temperatures closer to body temp will serve with no risk of discomfort...think about how the metal implant will gain heat (through convection) to match the temperature of the stone if it is left resting in place...then the implant will take a long time to dissipate the heat possibly causing deep tissue damage....cold will bring discomfort through a similar process...best rule of thumb is to use the exact stokes and motions you would offer with your hands for this client while keeping your stones in the milder ranges of warm (98-110 F.) and cool (60-98 F)...
