Hi Dave, At some point she may have an emotional release on your table. Just let it happen and keep massaging.

Thanks Darcy,    What you describe is indeed happening. She mentioned journaling. You are right, what ever I've been doing is good so far, so I'm not planning any significant changes in what I do. I just want to make sure I'm a little ahead so I don't make any mistakes as things change for her. I guess I'd just rather not be so surprised is all.

Hi Dave, Keep doing what you are doing. The work is hers not yours. She needs to write the stories and get rid of it all. Just keep listening offering nothing but listening. I fought my massage therapist in the beginning for about 4 months until I could share that I had been abused as a child and the massages triggered everything. Once I shared, then I was able to relax and let the healing begin. You are doing a great work.

I've recently picked up a client with abuse history that was brought out after 8th sessions. She has mentioned that I've already provided significant help through my non evasive non confrontational touch, and that I'm on occasion a trigger to memories of the past which she has brought up in her counseling sessions which was a huge surprise to me. She very much wants to continue sessions with me. Although I must be doing something right,  I'm now on the fast track to learn as much as possible about how I can modify my work to provide the best healing support. I'm still a student taking more classes and will of course bring this to my instructors.  I've already picked up on contacting my local support services organizations and have made initial contact. Any books or other references will be greatly appreciated. I look forward to what this group and its site will teach me. I affirm that I shall be a sponge.

thanks for being there and open,

dave

I just attended a class in Craniosacral therapy around death and dying given by Don Ash in NH. It also talked about trauma and loss. I have used the technique on a client who has PTSD due to a suicide in their family. The techniques work very well, and can be applied to situations involving abuse.

This class is designed to increase your knowledge regarding working compassionately and effectively with the effects of trauma/chronic stress in your practice. Learn how secondary trauma affects those dealing with trauma and abuse with others.

Learn about “triggers” that affect a person after the event or trauma is over and how to release them, replacing fear motivated behavior with a sense of calm.

When someone experiences emotional or physical trauma, illness, chronic stress, surgery, suppressed or negative feelings, this causes “energy blocks” in the body, affecting our health and well being.

This group is just what I have been looking for. I work at the local center for those that have been sexually assaulted or are currently or in the past victims of domestic violence. I have worked the hotline for the past 2 years. I have also started my Master's in Mental Health Counseling. I started this because I found that as I worked on muscle groups I would hear the same story. However, each time I worked on the muscle group the story would get shorter and shorter depending on the trauma. I found it very interesting and detirmined it was out of my scope of practice and started my Master's. I hope to be a somatic psychotherapist. I look forward to reading some of the stories and reviewing some of the educational courses that everyone has taken as help in my own profession.
