massage and bodywork professionals

a community of practitioners

Our next meeting will begin the necessary conversation regarding the lack of legislation in New Mexico making it near impossible for licensed massage therapists and other alternative therapy providers to get paid by insurance companies for patient treatments.

Only two states (Washington & Florida) have successfully pushed their insurance commission and legislators to pass laws that mandate insurance companies recognize and reimburse alternative therapy providers as legitimate health practitioners. The result of this? Licensed Massage Therapist and other alternative therapy providers on average make two times the annual income than those in states with no laws.

This discussion has been circulated in the community and amongst the NM Massage Therapy Board for the last 10 years, but most efforts either stalled or never started. The Healers Connection is about to break this cycle by launching a large grass roots effort to push the New Mexico Insurance Commission and Legislatures to pass laws that will provide the same equality for these fields!

In the August Healers Connection meeting we will talk about what we need to do to start this effort and discuss your ideas on how to gain the support of local therapists, clients and even medical professionals that want their patients to have the referral option without constant push back from insurance companies.

With one large and loud voice we can make this legislation happen!
