Are there any male massage therapist currently doing, or teaching, infant massage in this group?
  • Carol Nicolich

My name is Carol Nicolich and I am a registered Massage Therapist in Colorado and work at the Aurora Campus of the Denver School of Massage Therapy. I am writing to let other therapist know that Laura Charleton, a Certified Infant Massage Educator and member of Infant Massage USA, is offering a course to become a Certifed Edudator of Infant Massage. The course is from Thurs. 10/22 thru Sun. 10/25 from 9am - 5 pm in Parker, CO. Please contact me for more information or if you would like to register. Thank you

    Hi Arnold,

I have trained a number of men to teach infant massage. They come from a variety of backgrounds; massage therapists, pediatricians, physical therapists, early education teachers and even those who are transitioning from other fields into massage therapy careers. Often times fathers feel particularly comfortable when a male is teaching them to massage their child.
  • Tina Allen

    Hi Carol,

Thank you for sharing this information.
  • Sarah Denham

Very interested in becoming trained to teach infant massage techniques. To those of you that are currently teaching, what schooling did you obtain your training from? I am currently looking into the Infant Massage Institute.
  • Tina Allen

    Hi Sarah,

You can find information about infant massage certification on my Liddle Kidz Foundation website at: www.liddlekidz.com

If you have any questions, I would be happy to try and answer them.
  • Crystal Dawn Suovanen

    Hey Tina,
Was wondering what the best infant massage doll you have come across is. There are so many dolls out there (most are SO expensive) and it can get a little overwhelming. I don't want to buy a doll unless it's big enough and will hold up over time.
    --Thanks!
  • Tina Allen

    Hi Crystal Dawn,

I'm happy to give you some suggestions on dolls for infant massage.

As far as size and specifications:

    - doll should be 19 - 21"
    - have a soft torso & limbs
    - plastic face, hands and feet

There are some dolls made by Touch Needs which are designed specifically for massage. However, many infant massage teachers use dolls purchased from toy stores. The dolls purchased from toy stores work perfectly. Now with the holidays approaching, you may find a very good deal on a nice doll at a local toy store.

I'm in the process of getting certified! I finished my written exam and now am working on the practical sessions with parents. I absolutely love it, I"m having a difficult time recruiting parents, scheduling with mothers is tough they are so busy!
  • Carol Nicolich

Stephanie, I fully understand, I have been working on getting my families for my certification,  I have been to kid fairs and handed out flyers and cards to anyone with a baby or who was pregant since April.  I may have 3 families and possibly a 4th and they are students I've worked with, co workers and their friends.  Don't give up.  Check with the local OB's they may be able to help you get your families.  I would also suggest continuing the free classes for anyone that comes to you after you get your needed families.
  • Tina Allen

    Hi Stephanie & Carol,

It is sometimes a challenge finding families when you first begin as an infant massage teacher.  However, if you implement ne marketing techniques such as using the internet and your website, then you will be more successful.

You may use the LiddleKidz.com Forum to let parents know you are offering classes.  Often, parents visit the forum to find sessions and classes.  This could be a very good way to find parents to learn infant massage.

I just took an infant massage class and I am wondering if people are doing group classes or individual classes and how much you charge for each? I am having trouble determining pricing for this service as there is nobody else in my area that really does it yet. Any help with pricing, marketing or other tips is greatly appreciated! :)
