Tennessee Massage Therapists and Bodyworkers

This group is for massage therapists in TN or those that have questions about working in TN. I hope that we can have some good discussions about what we can do to help people through massage in our state! The sky is the limit!

Is there Light at the end of the (Time) tunnel?

I have a question... Has everyone received support from family and friends since becoming LMT's. I asked my daughter today and she says that she misses me being around (I was a SAHP)....hearing that makes me feel that I once again will give up what I love to do for others as I have always done. If anyone has gone or is going through this how did you handle it? I have even tried to juggle my time to be more available uhhh you know quality over quanitity.... Just asking.

Gabriele, I have four children and the age of my daughter is 14 soon to be 15 she is a Momma's Girl....kinda weird I always thought it was Daddy's Girl...anyway I am oddly closer to the older two children whereas the younger two favor their Dad. Having been a stay at home Mom I miss that but I do not miss the feeling of unappreciation. Where I feel appreciated working..... oh well. like I said I am making the time I am with them as meaningful as I can. I mean I really love massage and I love my family better. I just can not see me choosing.
    Enough on me.
    Have a great week.

    How old is your daughter?
I got into massage when my kids were 16 and 18 - they were used to me being home all the time.(I was lucky to have had a supporting husband) -I have pursued massage as a part-time occupation since due to other responsibilities as well.
Our daughters are now in college and on home visits I sometimes hear.....: you never cook anymore....(which is not really true, but it doesn't always coincide with them being here .....). So I tell them, that they have the option to cook, which they actually sometimes do as well. Overall, I have occasionally not taken chair gigs or opportunities due to family obligations. My family is still first. I give myself 2 more years until the kids are out of college - then I would like to build a stronger client base.
Not sure, if that is helpful....it all depends on your personal situation.

    Julia,
I have been working at my massage business part-time, but wishing for full time. I have a wonderful partner that loves when I work, because I come home so much happier. My 14 almost 15 year old son loves that idea that I help others, and as he says, you can always give to me - so go ahead and give to others. I love what I do and I make sure that my attitude while with my family is the best that I can provide. It is not always great - I do have down times, but I try to always make the best of it. I wish you balance in your home life and your career life!
