Great trade shows and educational conferences include the AMTA Conference, the World Massage Festival, the Texas Association of Massage Therapists conference, the American Massage Conference in Atlanta, and any many others. You can use Google to find massage conference details.

There are also numerous individuals who offer workshops and conferences, including, but not limited to Erik Dalton, Til Luchau, Art Riggs (Til and Art have a workshop coming up in Costa Rica this month), Gil Hedley, Whitney Lowe, Tracy Walton, and numerous other educators.

Hello Everyone! I just founf out about this site today! Pretty cool!

I currently live in Orange County but i will be relocating to the Bay area in the end of June. Does anyone have any insight or experience in any of the schools up there? I am aimng for Marin County but anywhere up there is fine.

I have been teaching at a local college since June 2009, and I would like to continue teaching but not sure where to focus my energy near San Fran...any ideas?

  • Tina Holt

    Candice,

The San Francisco School of Massage and Bodywork has a very good reputation! I would start there.

But you can look on the www.massage-education.com/massage-school-in-california.html website for a list of all the schools in the area. It will connect you to their websites also.

  • Ariana Vincent, LMT, MTI, BCTMB

Art Riggs teaches at the San Francisco School of Massage and Bodywork. I second Tina's recommendation of that school for someone who wants to study in the Bay Area. Warmly, Ariana area.http://www.deeptissuemassagemanual.com/workshops.html

Upcoming CE Courses in Ft. Myers FL

I am offering two unique workshops in Ft. Myers over the Memorial Day weekend. The first, Indian Champissage™ (Head Massage) is a 3-day course for 21 CE hours. The second, Kansa Vatki Foot Massage™, is a 1-day course for 7 CE hours.  Both courses are NCBTMB approved (450489-07) and FL approved (50-10661).

    What:     Indian Champissage™ (Head Massage)

    When:    May 27-29(Fri/Sat/Sun)  9:00 - 5:00 each day

Where:  La Quinta Inn/Ft. Myers Central, 4850 S. Cleveland.

Indian Champissage has been popular in India for over a thousand years.  The head, neck, shoulders and upper back - areas where tension is more likely to accumulate - are gently, firmly and rhythmically massaged until the pressure simply melts away.  This unique therapy combines physical and subtle massage with energy balancing to produce feelings of perfect peace.  It is a wonderful alternative to seated chair massage.

    What:     Kansa Vatki Foot Massage

    When:    May 30 (Mon) 9:00 - 5:00

Where:  La Quinta Inn/Ft. Myers Central, 4850 S. Cleveland

Kansa Vatki Foot Massage is a beautiful and relaxing healthcare modality which balances the body, mind and spirit.  This unique treatment, steeped in centuries of Ayurvedic ceremony, incorporates ghee (clarified butter).  The heart of the treatment involves vigorously rubbing the soles of the feet with a

3-metal bowl to draw heat and toxins out of the body thereby inducing tremendous relaxation.  The Kansa Vatki Foot Massage is deeply revitalizing for tired feet and legs, and it makes a perfect addition to reflexology.

I wanted to share with you a huge "ah-ha" moment I had yesterday.  This idea touched my heart deeply and I am curious to see if anyone else has implemented it.

Yesterday we had a Holistic Nurse come in to speak on how healing happens and self care.  It was beyond what I expected and was very moving.  One of the points she touched on is one we as instructors teach our students; grounding before session.  But she took this a step further and talked about how the massage room was "sacred ground".  Well this did make sense to me, but what I heard in my heart right after she said this was "treat your classroom as sacred".  Wow!  That idea had never crossed my mind!  I can get so wrapped up in everything I need to do, teach, & communicate that I had never bothered to even consider that.  So now I am making it a personal goal, to set my intention for each class before I enter the "sacred learning space".

  • Gloria Coppola

Kris Bour I always treat my space, my classroom, my clients body and mine as Sacred. It's part of the culture that is taught in the hawaiian bodywork. It has also been something intuitively I always did even when I owned my massage school.

Most students never learn the true art of Grounding either. I have worked with many LMT's after school that said no one really 'taught' it , only said it.

They also LOVE the concept of holding the sacred space and being taught how/what all that means. Glad you had your Ah Ha moment :)

Every CE class is my newest favorite.  Every class I take opens my mind to new possibilies for my private practice and aids me in understanding each Massage Therapist that my staffing agency places.  Even when I take a refresher CE class, it helps me to remember small things that I have forgotten or allows me to see the therapy through a new set of eyes.

I took a 3 day class "Massage For People With Cancer" taught by Tina Ferner. She was great. I loved the class so much that I am planning on going for my certification in Oncology Massage. Tina was very knowledgeable and made the class interesting and fun. The last day of class we did massages on actual cancer patients.

Spontaneous Muscle Release Technique (SMRT)is a concept that begins with passive contraction of muscles, ligaments, connective tissues, and bones simultaneously to allow spontaneous release of these structures.  SMRT stimulates lymphatic flow and creates a natural unwinding of connective tissues, which allows the joints of the body to realign effortlessly, re-establishing correct posture.  While doing all of this, SMRT also quickly alleviates soreness in tissue, permitting you to work deep tissues that have not been accessed before.  Finally, SMRT release both physical and etheric energy.  The release of the ATP necessary to hold muscles tight and joints out of alignment lets the body  relax and further the healing in the area.  The release of the etheric energy held in the area creates energetic flow through the meridians and chakras of the body.
