I just put up a
new blog post and action alert on the AB 1822 attempt to undermine California's new state-level certification program and return to local agency licensing. AB 1822 will come before the
CA Assembly Business and Professions Committee next Tuesday, 20 April. This is an attempt pushed by a small contingent of police chiefs, while most cities and counties are cooperative with and happy to see CAMTC take over the burdens of background checks and education verification. What's particularly cynical about AB 1822, is that the proponents have tried to frame it as an anti-human trafficking measure to gain support. A comparison with actual anti-human trafficking activities and legislation shows the lack of commonality.
