As 2010 approaches, I’m in the throes of one of my favorite tasks at the office: cleaning and clearing. Of course, housekeeping is done daily around here, but I’m talking about cleaning out the filing cabinets of this year’s files, clearing my desk of the last of this year’s piles, and getting ready for the New Year.
I’m one of those highly organized people that has every year’s bills and records stored neatly in a labeled box by the time Dec. 31 rolls around. I tend to keep records way longer than necessary, and once in awhile, I allow my husband to throw a few years’ worth into the fire barrel he keeps outside his workshop.
I love to start the new year out with clean file folders. I throw away all the worn-down pencil nubs that have accumulated and sharpen a box of new ones. I get rid of all the pens that won’t write that I’ve picked up a dozen times, and open a new pack. I fill up the stapler, the copier, and the fax machine whether it needs it or not.
