Great points Les, too often people forget that we don’t just do massage to make money. I always tell people that if I wanted to make millions I would have gone into the Financial Services industry. (Hopefully I would have become too big to fail) I run a massage school, and we are very selective about who we admit to our program. If we sense that someone is overly concerned with just making as much money as possible we don’t admit them. Although we recognize the need for people to make a decent living, we want to heal the world, not buy it. Your point about the number of therapists who work part time is interesting, as I’ve always thought that Massage Therapy is the ideal part time job. Lately at our school I’ve noticed that more and more engineers and scientists are applying. They’re saying that they want to do something part time (in addition to their corporate jobs) that’s not so analytical and cerebral, where they interface more with people and less with machines. Thanks for your honesty and out of the box thinking, too many schools push unrealistic financial expectations, perhaps to justify skyrocketing tuitions.
