It sounds like the same thing I do with the golf balls! I heat and cool those too!
The thing I like about the SPAball, though, is when I do really deep work it doesn't hurt my hand as opposed to using the ball by itself. Plus I like my hand touching the person while I'm using it. Sometimes they don't even know I'm using a ball they just think I have awesome thumbs. ;)
I do a lot of cross-fiber work too. here is a video of some of the technique if you are interested...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQ-R84b_vMA&feature=related
You roll them with the palm of your hand. They work great on the larger muscles, back, llegs and arms. small 2 inch size or large 4 inch. Rolling the large ones up the back on both sides of the spine at the same time and paralleled is a great feeling. The cold stone surface also provides a cold stone treatment which is good to reduce inflammation and heat from the body.
I wonder how the ball caddy would do as a lymphatic tool. I developed a roller system combining Western & Chinese lymphatic drainage techniques. I wonder if the caddy and marble could be rolled light enough to do the same. You can read about this technique here.
