I first got into massage when me and my husband did a tour of duty in okinawan japan. Due to him deploying to iraq for the first time, i was under a lot of stress, depression set in, and finally i couldnt even get out of bed, and i didnt turn on the tv for a least a week. A friend of mine suggested massage, they offered it at our gym on base. She was a japanese massage therapist, and she was GREAT. i start going twice a week, just to relax and deal with the stress of being alone and not hearing from my husbad very much, cause he was in the red zone. Then two years later we had a premature baby boy, i gave birth at 30 weeks, well actually the doctors made a mistake during a procedure, and he had to come early. He almost died. He spent the next two months in the NICU, i learned there that he got a thirty minute massage everyday. I took a infant massage course there, to find out how to do it at home when he came home. Then late one night, trying to figure out what to do for my future i saw a commercial on tv about Sanford-Brown, i called and in two days was at school.
I really want to do infant massage in the hospital that saved my baby's life. Childrens Hospital here in St. Louis. i want to give back to those who help us. I want to help those little angels to survive, and i want to make the families feel better about being there. Because i know for experience, that it's tough being there, and its very stressful on everyone, but mainly the newborn fighting for its life in a glass box.
If anyone has any advice on infant massage, or continuing eds on it and schools, please let me know. Thanks
