Hello everyone,
I just signed up for the site. My name is Karen and I am looking forward to being able to learn from other massage therapists. I am a recent graduate, May 2013. I would love any tips for a new graduate in the field. It gets kind of isolating out here once you are out of school. I have my own studio and things are going pretty good. I also do seated chair massage at some offices. I love to continue learning new techniques and just want to grow in knowledge and experience.
I was curious if anyone has taken the Muscle Melt Method online course? I saw it advertised in the ABMP massage and bodywork mag Jan/Feb2014 issue. I would love any advice for books or videos or courses that can enhance trigger point therapy work. We touched on this in school but there is still sooo much to learn.
I just purchased Eric Dalton's upper body myoskeletal home study course, so I need to finish this one first. Also, if anyone out there has purchased this course any of his courses, would love some feedback and how it has helped your practice. I want to really help those in chronic pain with his techniques!
Blessings,
Karen Heim, LMT

Karen, I have looked into Erik's course. It is very unconventional. I don't know where quite I stand on his practice. What about you, what is your initial gut after going through it? I am also interested in how you are improving your trigger point therapy work. Do keep us posted on that.
Congrats on your license! I think the reason why my practice was so successful is because I found a niche. I am a CKTP and specialize in rehabilitation. Focusing on one or two modalities and learn as much as you can! I was not only known as a massage therapist but I had patients come and referred to me because of my kinesio taping skills. Oh and see if there are massage networking events in the area.
