a community of practitioners
The world was flat until a man sailed to the "end of the earth" and realized... he didn't fall off, in fact there was much more out there. This realization sparked people to explore, conquer, trade and travel. Advancements in technology brought the entire world and its inhabitants together to fit in the space of a computer screen. The world wide web has created a global sharing of ideas and information among citizens of the world, it has made connecting with each other easy and fast. Progress has been made. And yet, society has regressed. There is a lack of human interaction in the real world. While social networking and the internet has made an online global community, it has also contributed to a social awkwardness, a decreased community of individuals participating in life apart from their computer screen.
And now why was that important in regards to massage? Well...
There are some great websites that promote and facilitate discourse between massage therapists online:

We are therapists, we are individuals who know the power of touch, connection, human interaction. There is an element missing from an online network of massage therapists and so..
We are calling for the creation of a local massage community. One that meets in person to discuss anything and everything related to massage: ethics, business, research, different modalities, tips and techniques, music, books and articles, self-maintenance... the possibilities are endless! It is time to be actively involved in helping to make massage therapy a legitimate and respected field in the health and wellness world. To do this requires people coming together. A sharing of ideas, information and taking action to promote and enjoy what it is we all have a passion for. Every massage therapist is encouraged to join their local community of therapists, whether you are retired, currently working, are a student or even just thinking about it.
Massage Therapy is multidimensional. It is science and it is art. It is clinically therapeutic and it is soulfully therapeutic. It is a career and it is a lifestyle.
For those therapists in the DC Metropolitan area join our local massage community!
For those therapists beyond this location create your own local massage community!
This is the real world of massage- are you ready to participate?

I am in the process of getting in touch with local businesses and spreading the word about bringing therapists together. The idea is to have 2 organized meetings a month at various locations around the area (ideally locations will be volunteered by therapists). Various topics will be highlighted at each meeting some of which requiring tables for techniques and bodywork or areas large enough to practice self maintenance activities, others can be discussed in coffee houses or bars.
I am really excited about getting this together, most likely the first meeting will occur in January at the start of 2012. This being the holiday season life and work for therapists get kind of crazy, so we're creating the buzz, giving people time to get fully excited and spread the word!
By all means, Massage Therapy is multidimensional both spiritually and physically along with clinical and soulfully therapeutic! Please send me more information as you receive it! I've never been a "flat world" believer if you know what I mean -- but history has shown, those in power, keep power, because of the ignorance of others until they become aware in numbers -- Count me to participate ---
