Things I wished massage therapists knew about massage jobs...

After reading the results of a small survey that was done by one of the members here, I have to say I am still puzzled about the massage profession and what they are thinking..

A few of the points mentioned in that post say that:

- massage therapist feel that they are owed by their professional associations to do things like get them more benefits at jobs and have a list of employers and a rating system of the best jobs?

- massage therapists feel that it is their employer that is to get clients back in the door?

- massage employers still treat massage therapists with no respect and they don't give any benefits?
... because they can and will until people stop taking those jobs

The things I wish massage therapists knew are:
-That you are in control of your own personal and professional destiny
-While saying no may be really hard it is necessary.
-If you can't say no to a disrespectful employer and have to take the job then just learn from it instead of complaining about it so you can get out of there as soon as possible and find a better job.
-Taking responsibility for your job is also part of being a professional.
- You are just as responsible for getting clients as the employer is.
- If you are complaining about a job remember that you accepted the job.
- You can ask for what you want in a job. You may not get it but you need to start teaching employers how to treat you.
- The reason employers disrespect massage therapists is because MT take the low paying, no benefits jobs anyways. You teach people how to treat you.

I have actually written and ebook on the topic and now need to figure out how to get it to every massage school... but that is another topic! Maybe it should be a big campaign- "Just Say No to Bad Massage Employers!"

What else do you wish you knew or wished other massage therapists knew???

How can we get this information out to more massage therapists??
