Lately, I've had many clients asking about the benefits of using heated stones as part of therapeutic massage treatments.

There are many: the warmth of it is simply relaxing; also, just knowing that you are treating yourself to "something extra," adds to the positive experience of getting a relaxation massage; and it just feels good to have the weight of the stones removed at the end of the session because it gives the sensation that you are levitating over the table just a bit.

In addition, when your muscles are tired and sore from overexertion, you are likely to reach for a heating pad. The problem with this practice is that it exposes you to harmful EMF waves. The smooth basalt lava rocks used in a heated stone massage treatment hold heat for a long time without exposing you to these waves, so it is a healthier and even more relaxing way to apply heat to muscle tissue.

Also, the stones can be placed in specific locations to target problem areas all over the body, whereas a heating pad is put over a larger and therefore less specific area.

So, no matter whether the reason you are getting a massage is for relaxation or for treating specific muscle pain, upgrading your treatment to include hot stones is a great idea.
