A bit about me

I am a sales and marketing gal currently enjoying working and living in the wonderful world of massage therapy. I am a licensed massage therapist in the great state of Massachusetts. My career prior to massage was as a sales and marketing director in various internet and telecommunications companies. Kids grew up, started moving out (and the telecom market crashed!) and I took a sharp left turn-into Ben Benjamin's Muscular Therapy Institute in Cambridge MA. I love working as a massage therapist, but even as I was working in some swanky resorts on Cape Cod, I couldn't stop selling retail products to my clients in the reception area! I now have the best of both worlds-I am working as a marketing and new media consultant with some clients in the massage therapy profession and am honored to support them with their marketing efforts.
I am also a member of and serve the American Massage Therapy Association as the 3rd VP and chair of the Massachusetts Chapter website committee and will serve as a 2009 Massachusetts Delegate to the 2009 national AMTA conference, where I will be presenting a Position Statement to the 2009 House of Delegates. I am also pleased to serve the Massage Therapy Foundation as a member of the Community Service Review Committee and the newly formed Marketing Committee.
I look forward to learning, connecting and contributing to this exciting new portal!

Touch: A Link to Emotional Memory for People with Alzheimer’s disease.

People often avoid visiting loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease. They

avoid it because they assume that the visit won’t be remembered so what

difference does it make? Today on NPR I heard a great interview with Justin Feinstein, a graduate student in neuropsychology at the University of Iowa. He reported on a fascinating… Continue

Massage Therapy Programs Experience Rise in Enrollment

U.S. Department of Labor reports that employment opportunities for massage therapists are expected to rise by 20% by 2016. Coupled with the fact that 45% of women and 21% of men reported receiving a massage within the last five years, the projected rise in demand for massage therapist certainly seems to make sense. Great article Lisa! Anyone careing for a family member or close friend should read this. Fortunately I have been able to recognize some of the symptoms before it's too late and can pull back. Once when I went for a massage session, I walked in with a smile on my face, was so happy to be getting therapy and as soon as I got on the table I started crying and cried for the entire session. I thanked the terapist dearly for not calling 911 on me as I know I did some ugly crying. It is very hard to step back but I'm getting better at it as I see and know the dangers of not doing so.

Lisa, I am doing very well, thank you. Nanette Burnette and I are working tirelessly in getting an interest in our Compassionate Touch work. We have gone to every hospice that we know of, passed out folders of our credentials and done several health shows. We also attended a weekend class for Compassionate Care at the End of Life. It was awesome. I am still tryin to get enough business to quit my job at Fed Ex. Just seems no one wants to pay for this awesome service!! Someone told us just very recently that Medicare will pay if a Dr. writes a script. We have not yet looked into that, but somehow I am doubting this is factual. I am considering working part time with one of the hospices as an in-home caregiver. Lots to consider. Thank you for you continued support and care. Blessings, Carol Horned, Springfield,Mo.
