IM such upbeat person but after I give a 50 minute massage I feel weird. It is hard to describe its not tired as in physically tired it is almost like a draining tired. Like my energy is gone into the person. I left feeling a little empty if that makes sense! Am I alone with this of not what I can do not to feel this way?

You are giving up your energy to the client. It is important to breath deeply. All energetic systems teach the same thing. You don't offer your energy you serve as a conduit for energy to flow to the client. Using your energy will deplete you and leave you broken down.

Google Qi Gung, Taiji, Reiki, Prana they all teach this practice. My favorite description of this is a quote from the Lakota Medicine Man Frank Fools Crow; "make of yourself a hollow bone. First clear yourself to be able to receive".

Good luck and no you are not alone. I run into many therapists that need to learn this.

You need to ground yourself before you start the session. Take a moment at the beginning of the session, take 2 - 3 deep breaths and just bring yourself into the present moment fully and totally. Set your intention (in your mind) to run energy through you and not FROM you.

Imagine energy flowing from the Universe, through your head, through your upper chakras and through your arms and hands into the client. You are not using your energy you are using universal life force energy.

Stay present through the entire massage and be aware. It is more difficult to remember to do this when you are tired, hungry, upset etc. So, try to rest adequately and plan adequate nourishment and hydration for your work days. Most importantly, remember to stay in the present moment and remain aware of your energy and the energy of your client. Also, release your attachment to the outcome of the session. Always do your best with the intention of helping however you can but release yourself from the outcome. When you are attached to the client having a certain experience you will be drained. When you are not conscious and aware of your energy when you are working you leave an opening for the person you are working on to pull energy from you. In truth, you can be vulnerable to anyone draining you when you are not conscious and in charge of your own energy. Does that make sense?

I love Daniel's quote...it's wonderful and exactly what I'm talking about....make a practice of doing that before EVERY session.
Daniel and Lucianna, so beautifully put!  Sirrea, they have really nailed it, in my opinion.

I agree, Therese.

This is such an important concept..........simple, but deep. Not always easy to put into practice, either!

Its interesting...Ive been doing this for years...But still, some people are easy to work on.. Others not.. And its not just a matter of physical exertion .  hmm.
Sometimes we try harder and harder but the client isn't receptive to what we offer. It takes two to tango.

That's the truth, Daniel!  When it works it's great.  When it doesn't it's a real chore.  I have found that my clients are receptive to different things I offer.  Not all of them want to try SomatoEmotional Release! :)

Lee, I know what you mean about it not always being easy to put into practice!  If I'm tired it's really difficult.

Glad I'm not alone out there! I'm sure if i learn to control my energy I'll feel more pumped to do more massages and wont burn out

Sirrea, energy is really important but also remember things like your body mechanics!  That will make a really big difference too. :)
I've learned that you should ground yourself and only let some of your energy go so that you will have much left over.  It takes practice to not pour so much of yourself out to your clients.  Keep practicing the technique.  Blessings and much peace in your day.

Lucianna,

I agree and shared the same response before reading everyone else this lets me know that I am to headed in the same direction.  Blessings and Peace.
