Hello my fellow therapists! I was wondering if anyone knew of a class for billing that is available to therapists without having to enroll in college again. Something along the CEU type of course. I have been working for a chiropractors office for a year and half now and our lead Dr., owner of the clinic, was asking if there was a course I could take to learn about different codes we could use to bill massage patients under. Right now everything is billed under "myofascial release". I obviously use more then just myofascial techniques during my massages and am always taking more classes to add to my practice. We do charge the standard $1/min for our cash paying patients. He was wanting me to find out if there was a different code we could use to bill under for those who are being billed through their insurance. Most of my patients are billed through insurance and are referred to me by the 3 chiropractors I work with. Our billing/collections person doesn't know of anything else that we could use.
Is there a class that I can take? I've been unsuccessful in my search so far...
Thanks for any replies,
Stephanie Garner, LMT

Julie Onofrio (she's on this board sometimes) has a great book: http://www.thebodyworker.com/insurance_billing_massage_therapy.htm
It goes through everything you need to know about how to bill for massage, codes to use, how to avoid denied claims. It's pretty darn through. It's only $10 as an ebook.
It will cover all the codes you "could" bill under, but you still need to see if individual insurance will accept them.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it!
The LMT Success Group http://www.lmtsuccessgroup.com/ offers an excellent class in insurance billing for massage therapists.
Diana Thompson at www.handsheal.com has written publications and offers courses. She is extremely knowledgeable and is one of, if not the first in the profession, to education about insurance billing. She was one of my instructors and I love her!
