Current research is questioning our understanding of flexibility and the value of stretching overall. Any new studies supporting this? Does massage increase flexibility?

I dont care what anyone says..Stretching is good for you...Im 59 and way more flexible now then when I was in high school, because I stretch every day.. And massage can make a body more supple too.  Loosen up those hamstrings, and there you go.  I dont know about research.  But I know that from my own body and people that Ive worked on.

I agree with Gordon. My own arthritic body that does massage every day is as much evidence as I need. But I also see it in my clients. Some of being inflexible is fear of letting go. Massage thatmakes stretching more comfortable helps over come this. Researchers skew research towards thier own presumptions, experiece, goals, and preconception/limitations. After all they are only human.

Yea, muscles tighten up because of stress. Emotional as well as physical stress.  I know Daniel knows what Im talking about. But Ive worked on people that are tight not because of trigger points that I keep talking about in here, but becase their minds are tight. They have this inability to let go or relax. The right kind of massage work would help them a lot. Emotional tension at an uncnoncious level.  This field we work in is huge.  Body/Mind.
