massage and bodywork professionals

a community of practitioners

Hi - does anybody have advice for dealing with friends trying to recruit or sale MLM items to you or your business?  I'm really getting annoyed.  I get asked to sale "protein shakes" and essential oils constantly.  IMHO, I'm not an aromatherapist or Registered Dietician so I'm not going there.  I know it varies by state.  I have told two people that is not in my scope of practice.

Yesterday I got an email with flyers saying "I know this isn't your area of expertise but can you hand this flyer of nutritional products to your clients".  Umm, no - it's not your area of expertise either, you're not a RD.   I did connect with an RD last week and hope to use her as a source as well as found one close to my home.

It is always good to have professional contacts to refer a client. I always keep names of chiropractors, PTs, acupuncturists and massage therapists who specialize in modalities I don't practice. I also suggest products to clients available either on-line or at local shops, ex. essential oils, lotions, etc., but do not market anything personally, just my business plan.
I do know some therapists who sell products that they use during their sessions, like cooling or warming gels, or handmade lotions, soaps and creams. I have no issue with that and think it is a nice benefit for clients and helps them remember the experience. In a spa, I would expect to see lots of products available, again these would be brands used by the technicians to enhance the client's experience when returning home.
I enjoy promoting local businesses when I can, but it doesn't mean I have to sell or front there products in my office.
Off the subject a bit. Here is an inexpensive self care product I recommend every massage therapist/bodyworker have. I also recommend it to clients.
