has anyone ever refused or dismissed a client based on conflicting personalities?

I have suggested a client might have better results with another therapist. It's difficult to work on a client that you just can't stand especially in a profession that embraces acceptance for everyone. Sometimes sending them to someone else isn't an option and you just have to suck it up and do your best to remember that the client (even the ones you want to choke with the sheet) stills needs your best work. If you simply can not tolerate that client and your ability to do your best for them and your other clients is damaged you should fire them for their own good and yours.
Thank you!! that is my feelings as well. I rarely have this problem but I never want to not do my best because of attitude by me or the client.

I never did. I understand that sometimes the two personalities are not matching, but being a professional massotherapist does not imply that you need to like the people you are treating... I am from Italy and I have been studying at ArteCorpo Massage School in Genova where they also taught me how to relate with unconfortable and difficult clients. Anyway also using some basic empathy I think that, as far as his/her behaviour is correct, this case should not happen. Or at least dismissing a client based on personality should be a very very rare case...
