I am surprised by the lack of information on scar tissue on the internet, regardless I was hoping some massage professionals could provide me insight.
I have mature (6 year old) scar tissue on the posterior side of my lower leg near the ankle that inhibits my ability to run over 1 mile. This resulted from compartment syndrome surgery on my calves. With this major lump, the muscles cannot glide correctly and I have very poor dorsiflexion of the ankle compared to my good leg (3 inches vs 5 inches)
My question is, am I screwed?! I just started seeing an ART practitioner who said he is confident he can help me. But the little research I find online is that at 6 years out the scar tissue is too mature for any therapy to help and my only option is surgery....
I don't know the answer to your question. ART is suppose to deal with scar tissue. So might as well give it a try. I learned Soft Tissue Release which is basically the same thing. The above link is Muscle Release Technique, another similar system to ART. Perhaps it might be helpful to read the info on that website? It always helps to know as much as you can about a subject. Anyway good luck.. Let us know if the ART works for you?
