The World Massage Festival announces “The Massage Therapy Project”, born on the 4th of July, 2010.  It will be a project to preserve Massage History.

This is an effort to compile a massage reference library and repository for massage-related literature, artifacts and history. Therapists, authors and instructors may submit their materials and become a part of Massage History.

Many items from private collections will be housed in the repository for present day therapists and future generations to view and learn from, as well as items from independent sources, the World Massage Festival and Massage Therapy Hall of Fame.

The WMF is reviewing several different locations across the country, as a possible home for the Project.  Do you have a suggestion for the location of the repository?  Please contact Mike Hinkle with the World Massage Festival with your input at
http://www.worldmassagefestival.com, festival@worldmassagefestival.com or 336-957-8997.

Yes, Judi definitely needs to get over here in this conversation box... She's got all the stuff... lol. Isn't it fabulous what our profession is finally blooming. Mike ...... You came in at the right moment with your dreams and now we are real, with a Hall of Fame and everything... There are a lot of folks out here that are thankful for your vision and don't have any idea how hard you and Cindy have fought just to be able to give....God Bless the World Massage Festival
Thank you so much Shawn. It really is all of us. We can't do it alone. We can organize it. But it is the volunteers that make it happen. And it will probably be the same with this. Volunteerism can never be overrated. It has made us successful for six years. People even give up their annual vacations to help. We are blessed. And this program will realize success as well! Thanks again for your gracious comments!

Well, of course I have to vote for my own city, Las Vegas, Nevada.

What could be a better location for something so profound than Sin City?

In the heart of 'what happens in 'vegas stays in 'vegas' would be the Massage Therapy Project!

Tackle the tough locations first! I mean, aren't we all about educating the masses??? That's all I seem to read about now-a-days....the band of brothers and sisters of fellow MT's to educate and save the world! Let us tackle their ignorance and lay our healing hands upon them until they see the light!

(Shakes head to clear the cobwebs out) Oh, sorry, I've been dealing with nut-job extremists today....

Kris
Thank you Jenny Ray! There are many wanting to contribute. It will be a great thing for the profession.
Great news guys! We have a possible site discussing our desires and folks are lining up add their collections and works to the body of work! Just thought I'd keep you updated!
Are we allowed to know the details? Where is this possible site located? mtproject.org nice
All the details will be out as soon as they are finalized. There is a lot to do and they will be organizing. Right now everyone should gather what materials they would like to donate to the Repository. I have tons of books that have been given to me by Hall of Fame Members and authors of massage books. Of course, I'll donate all the MWF information and Hall of Fame Programs as well.

Many authors have written asking for details. It will finally give massage a home!
excellent. And is Judy Calvert on board?
Judi has always been on board. She told me of this idea a long time ago. She has tried for years to share the "Calvert Collection" with the world. She is in the process of categorizing and puttting the entire collection on CD. It also could be part of the repository. But there are many collections out there. I have heard of the Benjamin Collection and there are several folks on the west coast that have an interest of donating as well. I want to make sure all authors are included.
Hi Mike,

I didn't read all of the entries so forgive possible redundancy please. Judi Calvert was at the Alliance meeting and was really interested in talking to anyone who was interested in massage therapy history. Also Patricia Benjamin was the AMTA historian for years, and that included history about the field as well as the association. Pat is in Chicago and might be found thru her publisher, Pearson.
Thanks Jan. Yes, Judi and I have talked about this for years and I have heard of the collection by Pat also. I hope we go beyond just large collections though and fill the repository with all the information we can regarding massage. I know there are a lot of small collections as well. I got an email today from a west coast therapist that has collected everything AMTA for years and wants it to be included. There is so much out there and it should be preserved for future generations to enjoy. A lot to do yet. But now folks should gather their information.

Thanks to everyone that has helped with this project. Tell a friend, send a book or get more folks involved because Massage finally has a place it can call "HOME!"
