I have to wear a black bottom which can be pants, capris, or shorts to the knee, and one of two shirts. One shirt is Gold, which I wear most of the time, and the other is dark grey. I also have to wear closed toed shoes. I have 3 of the Gold shirts to change out and one of the Grey shirts.
i'm actually in socks or barefoot. i think it stems from how i was taught in school in it's ability to help keep grounded. silly some of the things we remember and carry with us from school huh? :)

We had to wear closed toed shoes in school also. It is about infection control and saftey issues.
Lisa - I wear the same as you.

Always in black adidas track pants (the retro ones), black t-shirt and strangly cycling socks cos they have padded sections under foot.

I use to wear trainers but I now often place my foot on the couch during certain techniques (Thai on the table type stuff) so shoes went out the door.
hey Henry...this DOES sound extreme. i'm not sure i could ever wear a long sleeved shirt since i do a lot of work with my forearms. the other thing that strikes me as different is how corporate it sounds. i think as an MT i'd walk in and wonder if i was in the right place!!! :)

It depends on where I am working. If I am doing my house calls on the weekend I am very relaxed but professional looking. dress pants with a polo shirt maybe with a massage logo on it sometimes.
When I am at the physical rehab during the week I usually wear a long sleeved shirt with dress pants and nice boots and sometimes a tie. This may sound extreme but as an instructor I have to set the example of what professionalism is in the public's eyes or if I run across a past student (after what some of my students have worn to class). Granted shirt and tie may be too much, but i have found you get a great deal of respect from people who do and dont know you. (and yes I have given massage in a shirt and tie and my boots have crape (sp) soles which feel much better than tennis shoes.
Good question, Lisa. I've been contemplating moving towards uniforms as I've ruined too many of my clothes...:-) and I'm getting a little bored with the polo look--especially when I do errands after work. In summer, I wear black shorts or capris, with tennis shoes. Prior to doing the midlife massage career change, I was an admin assistant and had to dress up all the time, so the casual dress has been great. The polo shirt is professional and sporty looking. here are so many styles of uniforms available and I really like the professional/medical appearance. I've been looking at cotton/poly blend uniforms. Some of the therapists here in Modesto wear spa/medical type uniforms. Uniforms look great, quite professional, yet they're casual AND a tax credit!
Wonder why we seem to gravitate to wearing black? I do, too. Black comfy sport or yoga pants (J.Jill) & some sort of shirt, plus a black scrub shirt I can throw over whatever I wear works the best for me. I tried working in socks until I stubbed my toe on the table once, so now it's mostly some kind of leather comfort shoe or maybe strappy Teva sandals in summer.
cause it's slimming. :)

and hides lotion/creams/oil stains.

then again i wear black most of the time anyhow.

As opposed to Miss Louise Jackson over here. (Plus: AUGH! The eyebrows! They burn!)

At the spa I work at, we have a black jacket to wear--just kind of your basic boxy jacket. We don't /have/ to wear it, but I usually do, because that means I only have to worry about the bottom half of me looking presentable. When it's cold, I wear jeans and sneakers (yoga pants if I'm coming from the gym); in the summer, I wear shorts (usually cargo shorts) and Chakos or Birks.

At home, the bottom half remains the same, but I wear a tank top or plain short-sleeved shirt. My favorites are my black racer-back tanks with the built-in shelf bra, but they're starting to get a little on the old side.

And yeah, I usually wear black most of the time anyway, too.
Our therapist Miss Louise Jackson has a interest in natural lifestyle, believes in a holistic /alternative approach to life/health yet still understands that this complements modern medicine.

bwuahahaha...yea i could tell by how "natural" she looks that she's really into a natural, holistic approach. hahaha

but you know what...i'm glad Miss Jackson looks like that so there IS a difference just by looking at our marketing who and what we all are. ;)

Well, I suppose blowing one's wad qualifies as "natural" stress relief.

And, sadly, even though /we/ see a difference, the general public doesn't always. The one time I've been out-and-out propositioned in a massage was in the wellness spa I work at . . . while wearing the afore-mentioned boxy jacket. *headdesk*

sounds like a new thread to share experiences on "how i handled [fill in blank] in a massage session"

for me i have only been "asked of other services offered" in the intial email correspondance. which i was thankful that the guy had the forethought to ask BEFORE coming in for the session.
