Scapular Influences on Neck, Hand and Gleno-humeral Joint Function
12 CEs
September 17/18 2011, Saturday/Sunday 10:00 AM-5:00 PM
Anthem Career College
560 Royal Parkway
Nashville, TN 37214
Description of Class
This weekend we shall explore the influence of scapular positioning, scapular stabilization and the phenomenon of reciprocal inhibition as possible hidden factors in neck, hand and gleno-humeral joint function. Also explored will be the role of muscles that act as relocators of the humeral head into the glenoid fossa during the strong distractive forces produced during arm movements.
This weekend will be divided into four sessions:
Scapular Positioning: Pectoralis minor
Scapular Stabilization Serratus Anterior and Rhomboids
Reciprocal Inhibition: Anterior Serratus and Latissimus Dorsi: Hidden Nemesis in Neck Function
Relocators: Coracobrachialis and Long Head of the Triceps
For our treatment modalities, we will explore the influences of the muscle
Spindle cell mechanism and Golgi tendon organs.
Please review the following Laws:
Davis
If muscle ends are brought closer together, then the pull of tonus is increased, thereby shortening the muscle which may even cause hypertrophy. If muscle ends are separated beyond normal, then tonus is lessened or lost, thereby weakening the muscle. This can be seen in muscle imbalances where one ser of hypertonic muscles have shortened and become hypertrophied while the antagonists have weakened in response to their being stretched beyond normal. A person with rounded or forward rolled shoulders will have tight, hypertrophied pectoralis major and minor muscles while their rhomboids will be weak. When an impulse has passed through a certain set of neurons to the exclusion of others, it will tend to take the same course on a future occasion and each time it traverses this path the resistance will be less
When the agonist is firing and the affected joint moves, the antagonist group will be inhibited. This is the basis for coordinated movements of the musculo-skeletal system.
Please know the origin, insertion and action of the following muscles:
Serratus anterior, Latissimus dorsi, Rhomboids, Pectoralis major, Pectoralis minor, Coracobrachialis, Triceps, long head, Rectus and Oblique abdominals, Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, Subscapularis
The cost of $325 can be made by check or credit card. Due to the times we are in, we will accept two payments. The initial payment is $200 and the balance of $125 will be due the following month.
Cancelation Policy for this class- A thirty day notice is required for full refund due to class cap of 25. This ensures that someone else has the opportunity to attend, anything less than a 30 day notice will be negotiated with the instructor on a case by case incident.
