Karina, thank you for always being there for practitioners. Helping them stay healthy, grounded, engaged. The awareness you provide is essential. I worry about those individuals who feel that their positive intention will over come any danger to themselves. Intention—blended with ergonomics and savvy—is the essence of success. (And Darcy, you too, are a gift to this profession.)
Karina this is so true. I myself have slowed down to 3 days a week only doing 2 massages a day because of other responsibilities I have taken on. It was so good to see you in Las Vegas. Love and Hugs to you.
Therapists believe it is not acceptable to be injured because they tend to put others’ needs before their own. Most bodyworkers do not fully understand the physiology of injury and have too much pride to admit when they are hurt. Therapists need to stand up and say what is going on with them so that other therapists will feel more comfortable doing so. If you say nothing and work through an injury, you often make the situation worse. Fear is a common emotion when you have an injury; you may be scared of losing your income or your job. Bodyworkers must be able to set priorities so that they can put their body’s needs first. Each therapist must have awareness of his or her own body and be willing to stop doing an activity when certain symptoms arise. Otherwise, they become their own worst enemy.
Check out this article I wrote about performing the Sun Salutation. This yoga asana series is great for a warm up or cool down for the entire body. Here is the link to the online edition of Massage & Bodywork July/ August issue. I love the digital edition. http://www.massageandbodyworkdigital.com/i/70551
