Loving Massage Envy

I have worked for ME in southern Claifornia now for early two years and I know out here all of them are franchised out and we as therapist are not responsible for selling memeberships we mention the wellness program to the prospects. This is as far as we will go as the memberships go the sales associates are responsible for the selling. Most of the owners will give incentives on who gets the most sign-ups in a month. However: in my location they do not. Bummer. But we also offer other services in my location were we get incentives such as arometherapy, deeo heat therapy and now facials. I work five days a week and I do a lot of deep heat therapy since I'm a certified deep heat specialist so the extra 3.00 adds up on a paycheck when you do four a day. I have nothing but great things to say about ME I love this company and Have worked in two locations in southern california. Both have been positive experiences. Both have had veteran therapists and new therapists. There is a quote from Maya Angelou

"If you know it, Teach It." we should all be teachers in this field.

Thank you Christopher. I will celebrate 2 years at Massage Envy Pensacola in April. We are not a Spa so all we do is massage. We do not compete with the business in the strip mall that does facials. We too do not sell memberships. All we mention is the Wellness program and we receive a $10 bonus for memberships. We also do the Deep Muscle Therapy and also Aroma Therapy and receive bonuses for those services. All of our therapists in Pensacola are certified in these two Choices programs. I work Tuesdays - Friday 6 hours each day except for Friday 4 hours. This is a new schedule for me and I am finding it to be too much I feel. It is only into my second week though so will see how the month goes. Yesterday my schedule was totally unacceptable scheduling me 4 1/2 hours straight without a break. This has never happened to me so I was very surprised and upset that it did. Especially since my schedule is 2/4 which means I do 2 massages, have a break, and then do 2 more for a total of 4 massages in the day. I am much older than most therapists where I work the most senior female. The owner did buy pizza for lunch for which I was not able to eat because of no break time. So for me I just did the work and came home very unhappy yesterday which is usually not the case. They know they screwed up yesterday for me and no one apologized. Interesting I say. I do all kinds of teaching and orientating of new therapists and also monitor CE classes within the facility. For the most part I Love working for Massage Envy. Yesterday was an exception.

OK, what is a "certified deep heat specialist"? we do the deep heat relief therapy, and all have had the training, but no one is called a specialist.

OK, what is a "certified deep heat specialist"? We do the deep heat relief therapy, and every one in my clinic had to do the training, but no one is called a specialist. We get the extra $3 for doing it (not as a bonus but part of our commission). I have been with massage envy for just over 2 years now and am the lead therapist. At our clinic no one can do less than 4 hours in a row. 90% of the therapist are 4/7, others are 4 and out or 5 and out. I have been doing massage for 20+ years, am 41yo and work the 4/7. NOW all the clinics in Ga have the therapist “helping” sell the memberships AND if we don’t have a 20% turn over (20% of the prospects we see join up) we do not get our bonus

Hi Dannie, I have not heard of a Certified Deep Heat Specialist with Massage Envy. I know they offer the class with Whitney Lowe. Maybe once that CE class is completed one receives that title. Just not sure.

We do not sell memberships at Massage Envy Pensacola. That is strictly up to the front end sales girls. Yes, we receive the bonus but they receive a commission plus hourly rate.

i did the online class, and have

Taken hands on classes with Whitney, will be doing my last hands on class with him in Sep, maybe the “certified specialist” is something they use in California, and we don’t use that here in Ga. just as his hands on classes, the on line one can be a … challenge. But that’s a good thing; we are “strongly” suggesting that ALL the therapist take it in my clinic.

I wish we were not considered such a BIG part of membership selling here, I do not think it is far that a therapist will do the massage, get a $20+ tip for a hr massage then NOT get there bonuses if we do not close at 20%. I think if the client gave the therapist a $20+ tip the therapist DID there job and did it very well. but we have no say in it =(

Dannie, every owner is different. It is not strongley suggested we take Whitney's on line class. Our owner will pay for it though if we do. I personally think they put too much emphasis on the sales of membership. I feel it all boils down to they have the money or they don't. Nothing else. Just my thoughts. Hang in there and have a great week. I am here for you even though I am in Pensacola, FL

It was my idea that we have every one do the class, I think it is a must just for all the things you can get out of it, more so for newer therapist. I have been doing massage for 20+ years and it reminded me of techniques I had forgotten about. I have used what I relearned on about 9 clients in the past 2 working days and ALL OF them are coming back within the next week, hell with just the leg work (even without the deep heat stuff), you can do a 90 min, and they all LOVED it. I am right there with you about the emphasis on sales, but what can ya do???
