Who would you like to study oncology massage with and where would you like to study? 3 Replies

I'm wondering what kind of experiences you have had in your oncology massage studies? It would be nice if we could all share information about our classes. I'd love to hear from the teachers as well as the students. What do you like best about your classes? What are the most important points to focus on during an oncology massage session? What would you like learn in addition to the knowledge you have already gained about oncology massage? Where do you go to get accurate information regarding…Continue

Has anyone seen the lastest article in Massage Magazine, " Medical Massage,How Touch Benefits Cancer patients"? 6 Replies

I am looking to discuss this article as I feel it is missing a great deal of information that is already available.  Not a mention of Gayle MacDonald's book, " Medicine Hands," or of any of the established educational/certification programs presently offered throughout the United States.Too bad the authors missed a great opportunity to show they did their research.Continue

Hi I'm a Massage Student graduating next month. I'm very interested in learning oncology massage. I'm a medical assistant and worked at a Cancer clinic and that's my motivation for becoming a MT I want to give more than what I did.

Thanks. I'm doing a workshop in Dec for MTs. Lots of emphasis on treatment planning.

If you have recommendations, pls let me know so I can add them in.

My mother-in-law died of melanoma, and she was the inspiration for my becoming a therapist. My mom is a breast cancer survivor, and my dad was diagnosed today with a malignant mass in his chest. I have said good-bye to one beautiful client, from recurrence of breast cancer in her spine, and I am working with another client whose health history is progressing the same way. She has had cancer recur in her spine and ribs. They are all inspiring and brave beautiful souls, and it has been my honor to know and work with them. I want to improve my skills to continue to help those in the battle any way I can. I am so thankful to find this group!

The ppt can be viewed by following this path:

http://anatomyofanauthor.blogspot.com/ → Louisiana Institute of Massage Therapy Links → View Cancer & Massage Powerpoint

The presentation is only one hour, so I had to be selective about what might interest nurses about massage.

Hope you like it.

Hi Everyone - I'm new to this group. I teach massage therapy at a community college in Queens/NYC where I take advanced clinical students to do oncology massage at a hospital on Long Island. Looking forward to discussion...

Hi all, I'm new to this blog stuff but Mary Lou told me about your site and discussions and I had to check it out. I am so happy to find others who share this field.
