Lisa, it might help to know that my older daughter experienced similar drama at the beginning of her high school years...so I was on a mission to convince her that men are just dessert. (I think there is a book out there entitled something like, "Why do I think I'm Nothing Without a Man?") She regrouped and got active in 4H, seriously showing her horse around then which took up a LOT of time and that helped--but I know that isn't feasible for everybody. It there anything she can get involved with that will take up a lot of time and provide recognition or reward so she will focus on herself more totally? You probably have already explored this stuff, but I thought I'd just put it out there in case it could work as well for you two. (For the record, my daughter became an honor student in HS and college and now makes WAY more $$ than I can! She got married 5 years ago to a former "bad boy" and they actually bring out the best in each other.

thanks Ladies!!

now if i could only fast forward to the point when my daughter stops crying and moves on from this boy that seems to enjoy breaking her heart continuously...i'd be golden!! it's taking every bit of strength i have to not pick up the phone and give him a few choice words....NO not you Choice!!! although feel free to call him and tell him some Choice words as well. he's being a complete asshat!!!

Lisa, that's fantastic! I do most of my work in with a chiro and love it. FYI, have had a tough time gaining entry with PT establishments. It seems PT assistants also do massage therapy, so the PT's prefer to use them. Through the chiro I have built up a great client base of police & firemen. You might offer to do chair massage at the local fire station to promote yourself, those guys have lots of time sitting around when they're not on calls! I gained a few clients that way. :o)

Lisa-
That's fantastic on all accounts! So, not interested any longer in the spa route? You may also want to research a Physical Therapy office or a gym, possibly one that offers personal training. Another thought! Try getting a personal trainer as a referral source! Either by trading massage for your own work out sessions or give discounted massages to a trainer that refers his/her clients to you. Either option is "up your alley" with the athletic prevention/restore aspect!

well I'm happy to report that the city guy still wanted to book an appointment. turns out he's a great client. loved my work. wants to schedule more. has a good network to spread the word about me. ex chief of police. and said that there is no ordinance to prevent me from working out of my home. only limitation would come from the rental agency.

AND i talked to a local chiro who is interested in talking more about having an on site MT.

so things are back to looking up. phew. :)

well i did some more digging last night to find the ordinances of my town. Listing 19 states:

Personal Service Use
a. Definition: Personal service use means a facility for the sale of personal services. Personal service uses include, but are not limited to a barber/beauty shop, shoe repair, a tailor, an instructional arts studio, a photographic studio, a handcrafted art work studio, a travel bureau, and duplicating shop.

this listing is not allowed in home residences. but no massage listed there so i continued to look. listing 8 states:

Sexually-Oriented Business
a. Definition: An adult arcade, adult bookstore or adult video store, adult cabaret, adult motel, adult motion picture theater, adult theater, escort agency, nude model studio, or massage establishment.

and of course this type of service is also not allowed in a residential area.

so not only am i fighting the ability to just be able to work out of my home, i'm also fighting on the fundamentals of massage.

infuriating and frustrating.

Thanks Erica. I will. I tried to find something online but couldn't. I'll place a call tomorrow. I think I've had enough of today though. :)

Nite all.

which I don't think i can because of zoning rules.

You don't think you can or you know you can't? Might be time to make a couple of phone calls to the zoning board to find out for sure. You might check and see if they have a difference between service versus retail laws. It could be that retail is a problem, but a home-based service business is not. Don't panic. ;)

oh wait...I DO see myself Steve. that's pretty cool.

still frustrated though! :)

oh...fyi...the one client that came in today (from massage anywhere) seemed to enjoy it and I will send a follow up in the next day or two seeing how the benefits of his massage has lasted. hopefully he'll be up for another appointment at his place. ggrrr
